In August, over 50 players took the field at Virginia Sports Complex to take part in our third Unsigned Senior Games with over 15 colleges looking on. Players had their stats and videos taken and participated in a game. We open our analysis of the event by looking at the pitchers.

 

Joe Alexander RHP / 1B / Loudoun County, VA / 2019 Alexander is 6-3 with a lanky frame that has projection left to it. He throws from a high three-quarters arm slot with longer free arm action and normal effort. Smooth delivery, shoulders closed and uphill, lands on line with an athletic finish. Fastball was 79-82, touching 83 with downward angle and some late run. Change-up was 68-72 with good armspeed and heavy fading action. Curveball was 66-70 with gradual 11/5 break and some armspeed. Showed ability to command all three pitches.

 

 

Riley Arndt 2B / RHP / Hylton, VA / 2019 Arndt is 5-9 with an athletic frame that has some projection left to it. He throws from a low three-quarters arm slot with short free arm action and normal effort. Shoulders closed and level, lands closed with a fall off finish. Fastball was 73-76, touching 77 with hard late run. Curveball was 64-66 with sharp 12/6 break and some armspeed.

 

 

Dalton Barham LHP / OF / Maury, VA / 2019 Barham is 6-4 with a lanky frame that has a lot projection left to it. He throws from a lower three-quarters arm slot with short arm action and some effort. Shoulders uphill and on line, lands square with an athletic finish. Fastball was 74-76, touching 78 with boring action to the armside and downhill plane. Slider was 63-67 with sharp 2/8 break and some armspeed. Showed a straight change in warm-ups that he slowed his arm on.

 

 

Gunner Canary RHP / 3B / Riverside, VA / 2019 Canary is 6-3 with a lanky frame that has a lot projection left to it. He throws from a three-quarters arm slot with short loose arm action that is quick with normal effort. Shoulders closed and uphill, lands closed with a fall off finish. Fastball was 80-83, touching 84 with downward plane hard late run. Curveball was 72-74 with sharp late 11/5 break and good armspeed. Change-up was 76-77 with good armspeed and heavy run to it. Has feel for all three pitches and a lot of upside to add velocity as he fills out.

 

 

Ben Capehart RHP / OF / Maury, VA / 2019 Capehart is 6-2 with a lanky frame and has committed to VMI since the Senior Games. He has a lot projection left to it. He throws from a high three-quarters arm slot with longer loose arm action that is lightning quick with normal effort. Shoulders uphill and on line, lands square with an athletic finish. Fastball was 85-87, touching 88 with late armside run and good downhill plane. Curveball was 73-76 with sharp 11/5 break, good depth, and good armspeed.

 

 

Luke Churchill OF / RHP / Millbrook, VA / 2019 Churchill is 6-1 with a lanky athletic frame that has a lot projection left to it. He has committed to Lackawanna JC since the Senior Games. He throws from a three-quarters arm slot with short free arm action and normal effort. Shoulders closed and uphill, lands closed with an athletic finish. Fastball was 72-74, touching 76 with downward plane some run. Curveball was 61-63 with gradual 11/5 break and some armspeed. Change-up was 64-66 with some armspeed.

 

 

Matthew Crane RHP / OF / First Colonial, VA / 2019 Crane is 6-0 with a lanky frame that has a lot projection left to it. He throws from a high three-quarters arm slot with longer loose arm action that is quick with easy effort. Smooth delivery, shoulders uphill and on line, lands square with an athletic finish. Fastball was 82-85, touching 86 with some late armside run and good downhill plane. Curveball was 70-73 with sharp 11/5 break, good depth when down, and good armspeed. Showed a change-up during warmups with some armspeed and a bit of late fade.

 

 

Ryan Hayzlett RHP / Thomas Dale, VA / 2019 Hayzlett is 6-2 with a lanky frame that has a lot projection left to it. He throws from a high three-quarters arm slot with short free arm action with some effort. Drop and drive delivery, shoulders uphill and on line, lands square with a slight fall off finish and some recoil. Fastball was 77-79, touching 80 with some late cut and some downhill plane. Curveball was 64-67 with sharp 11/5 break, good depth when down, and some armspeed. Showed a change-up during warmups with some armspeed and a bit of cut and depth to it.

 

 

Tucker Hensley OF / RHP / Orange County, VA / 2019 Hensley is 5-11 with a strong athletic frame. He throws from a three-quarters arm slot with a long free arm action and easy effort. Shoulders level and on line, lands slightly closed with an athletic finish. Fastball was 74-75, touching 76, with some downward plane. Curveball was 62-65 with10/4 break and some armspeed.

 

 

Bailey Hodges SS / RHP / Thomas Dale, VA / 2019 Hodges is 5-10 with an athletic frame that has some projection left to it. He throws from a high three-quarters arm slot with a very short free arm action and normal effort. Drop and drive, shoulders closed and level, lands square with a slight fall off finish. Fastball was 77-79, touching 80 with some downward plane. Curveball was 69-70 with gradual 11/5 break and some armspeed.

 

 

Samuel Horn 1B / RHP / James Monroe, VA / 2019 Horn is 6-3 with an athletic frame that has plenty of projection left to it. He has committed to Shenandoah since the Senior Games. He throws from a high three-quarters arm slot with shorter free arm action and some effort. Shoulders closed and uphill, lands closed with a slight fall off finish. Fastball was 78-81 with downward plane and some run. Breaking ball was 65-67 with gradual 11/5 break and some armspeed.

 

 

Karson Jennings RHP / OF / Thomas Dale, VA / 2019 Jennings is 6-4 with an athletic frame that has some projection left to it. He throws from a low three-quarters arm slot with short free arm action with some quickness and effort. Slight drop and drive, shoulders uphill and slightly closed, lands closed with a fall off finish. Fastball was 77-79, touching 80 with heavy sink and some run as well as and good downhill plane. Curveball was 69-71 with gradual 11/5 break, and some armspeed. Change-up was 71-73 with good armspeed and some fade.

 

 

Cameron Karicher SS / RHP / Falls Church, VA / 2019 Karicher is 5-11 with an athletic frame that has some projection left to it. He has committed to Barton College since the Senior Games. He throws from a high three-quarters arm slot with a short loose arm action and some effort. Drop and drive, shoulders uphill and on line, lands closed with a hard fall off finish. Fastball was 81-83, touching 84 with some downward plane and a touch of late run. Curveball was 70-73 with late 11/5 break and good armspeed. Splitter was 73 with good armspeed and some sink.

 

 

Cameron Kerr C / RHP / Heritage (Leesburg), VA / 2019 Kerr is 6-3 with an athletic frame that has some projection left to it. He throws from a three-quarters arm slot with short loose arm action and normal effort. Shoulders online and uphill, lands square with an athletic finish. Fastball was 79-81, with some sink. Curveball was 70-71 with 11/5 break and some armspeed. Change-up was 68-71 with fade and some armspeed.

 

 

Noah Knapp RHP / 1B / First Colonial, VA / 2019 Knapp is 6-1 with an athletic frame that has some projection left to it. He throws from a high three-quarters arm slot with long free arm action and normal effort. Shoulders online and uphill, lands square with an athletic finish. Fastball was 72-74, touching 75 with downward plane. Curveball was 67-69 with 12/6 break and some armspeed.

 

 

Joseph Majewicz LHP / OF / Grafton, VA / 2019 Majewicz is 5-10 with an athletic frame that has some projection left to it. He has committed to Radford since the Senior Games. He throws from a low three-quarters arm slot with short loose arm action that is quick with normal effort. Smooth delivery, shoulders uphill and closed, lands on line to slightly open with an athletic finish. Fastball was 83-85, touching 86 with some downhill plane and late run to it. Slider was best breaking ball, running at the higher end of his breaking ball range of 74-78. Pitch had late hard 2/8 break and good armspeed. Change-up was 72-74 with good armspeed and some fade. Showed feel for manipulating a ball, spinning a curveball, cutting his fastball on occasion as well as two-seaming it too.

 

 

Dennis Minter RHP / SS / Fauquier, VA / 2019 Minter is 5-11 with an athletic frame that has some projection left to it. He throws from a three-quarters arm slot with a short free arm action and normal effort. Shoulders uphill and closed, lands closed with a slight fall off finish. Fastball was 72-74 with some downward plane and a touch of late run. Curveball was 64-66 with 11/5 break and good armspeed.

 

 

Alex Rebello RHP / 3B / Tuscarora, VA / 2019 Rebello is 6-0 with an athletic frame. He throws from a high three-quarters arm slot with short loose arm action and some effort. Shoulders uphill and closed, lands slightly closed with a bit of a fall off finish. Fastball was 73-75 with some downhill plane and late cut. Curveball was 63-65 with depth and 11/5 break and good armspeed. Showed a change-up during warm-ups with some armspeed and some sink.

 

 

Alexander Seymour OF / LHP / Brentsville, VA / 2019 Seymour is 6-1 with a strong athletic frame. He throws from a low three-quarters arm slot with a longer free arm action and normal effort. Shoulders uphill and on line, lands square with a slight fall off finish. Fastball was 76-78, with downward plane and some late run to it. Curveball was 68-70 with late hard 1/7 break and good armspeed.

 

 

Andrew Shartzer RHP / 1B / Grafton , VA / 2019 Shartzer is 6-4 with an athletic frame. He throws from a high three-quarters arm slot with longer loose arm action that has some quickness and some effort. Tall and fall delivery, shoulders uphill and online, lands on line with fall off finish. Fastball was 81-83, touching 84, with good downhill plane and hard late run. Curveball was 69-72 with hard 11/5 break and good armspeed. Showed a change-up during warm-ups with some armspeed and fade.

 

 

Mark Smith 3B / RHP / Tallwood , VA / 2019 Smith is 6-1 with an athletic frame that has some projection left to it. He throws from a three-quarters arm slot with short loose arm action and normal effort. Shoulders slightly closed and uphill, lands square with a slight fall off finish. Fastball was 80-84, touching 85 with downward plane and boring action to armside. Curveball was 71-73 with sharp 11/5 break and some armspeed. Change-up was 73-74 with good armspeed and some fade.

 

 

Joseph Vargas 1B / RHP / Floyd E Kellam, VA / 2019 Vargas is 5-8 with a strong athletic frame. He throws from a three-quarters arm slot with short free arm action and normal effort. Shoulders closed and uphill, lands square with an athletic finish. Fastball was 77-81 with downward plane and some boring action to armside. Curveball was 65-67 with 11/5 break and some armspeed. Change-up was 71 with some armspeed and sink.

 

 

Aidan Willard OF / RHP / Briar Woods, VA / 2019 Willard is 5-11 with an athletic frame that has plenty of projection left to it. He throws from a three-quarters arm slot with a short free arm action and some effort. Shoulders closed and level, lands slightly closed with an athletic finish and some recoil. Fastball was 77-79, with downward plane and some late run to it. Curveball was 73-74 with late 11/5 break and good armspeed. Change-up was 72-74 with good armspeed.

 

 

Zachary Wojnarowski SS / RHP / Grafton, VA / 2019 Wojnarowski is 5-11 with an athletic frame that has some projection left to it. He has committed to VMI since the Senior Games. He throws from a three-quarters arm slot with a longer loose arm action that is quick and some effort. Shoulders uphill and closed, lands slightly closed with a slight fall off finish and some recoil. Fastball was 85-87, touching 88, with good downward plane and boring action to armside. Curveball was 72-73 with late hard 11/5 to 10/4 break and good armspeed. Change-up was 78 with good armspeed and late run.
