Cape Cod: Calhoun threw just 12 innings for Oklahoma as a true freshman this spring, showing strikeout stuff but inconsistent command of his arsenal, leading to a few more walks than you'd like as well as loose command in the zone. This summer with Y-D, Calhoun was able to tightening things up some, striking out 16 and maintaining a 1.24 WHIP in 11.1 innings of relief work over six appearances. Listed at 5-foot-11, 190 pounds, Calhoun is a bit undersized on the bump, but all three of his offerings play well out of his three-quarters slot, starting with his fastball, which worked 90-91 mph with armside life in our look (2300 -2400 rpm) and has played up to 93 in previous viewings. His changeup works with an eight to nine mph delta off of the fastball, sitting 81-82 mph with solid fade. His breaker is a tight low-80s slider that played like a cutter and worked will to miss barrels and bats, alike. Calhoun showed very good feel in particular working in and out with his fastball and changeup, keeping hitters off-balanced and working quickly through two scoreless innings of work. For now, the profile still looks best suited for relief, but it could be a valuable multi-inning role for the Sooners if he's able to continue to build on his progress. He misses enough bats to potentially handle higher-leverage situations, as well, so long as he is limiting the free passes, creating a path for a fireman role.
