A TN/KY Border Battle participant last Fall showed solid all-around game. Had strong summer offensively, showing good production and gap-to-gap power. Rose from 148 to 63 (+85). Committed to MTSU in early July.
10/13/18 - Home-1st: 4.59, Pop Time: 2.00-2.06, Position Velocity: C-78, Exit Velocity: 86 6-foot-2, 170-pound, RHH showed improvement nearly across the board from this event last year. Tall, athletic frame w/ some present lower half strength, projectable. Has just scratched the surface of his frame potential. Offensively, hits w/ a slightly open, very slightly crouched stance w/ short hand rhythm into shift of weight, leg kick and short hand load. Generates bat speed through the zone. Rhythm hitter. Struggled with timing at times throughout, getting too far out on his front foot, keeping lower half engaged and through the baseball. All fields approach w/ lot of line drives when right. Projectable pull power. As a catcher, presents a quality low target, but nature of the glove rest will elevate the target slightly, which may make it more difficult to steal the low strike due to the umpires perception of the glove. Tools to receive, developing consistency with the glove and squeezing strikes. Flashes ability to box the baseball. Stands out as a thrower, featuring carry through target arm strength and quick release w/ good footwork and ability to put throws on the bag.
10/22/17 - Home-1st: 4.85, Pop Time: 2.06-2.09, Position Velocity: C-78, Exit Velocity: 78 6-foot-0, 150-pound, RHH shows above average defensive tools w/ projectable frame. Medium, athletic profile w/ lot of projection, little present strength. Offensively, hits w/ a slightly crouched, straight on stance w/ back shoulder hand location. Has front toe turned in. Some hand rhythm. Leg kick to slightly closed w/ deep hand load. Slight hitch as ball is coming before swing starts. Pull oriented approach w/ lot of line drives. Legs along for the ride in the swing. Defensively, presents a good target for his pitchers w/ feel for receiving. Quiet behind the plate w/ ability to steal strikes. As a thrower, shows an efficient release w/ arm strength w/ carry to target. Threw out a runner in game. Intriguing defense first catcher w/ lot of projection, interesting follow for the 2020 class.
9/17/17 - 6-0, 160-pound catcher made a strong impression before leaving due to a knee injury. Righty hits from a slightly open, slightly crouched stance w/ back shoulder hand location. Shift of weight, stride onto toe and proper hand load. Bat speed w/ pitch recognition. Defensively, shows advanced receiving tools w/ soft hands and ability to handle premium stuff. Developing feel for framing. Boxes well w/ athletic movements. Intriguing defensive catcher. Consistent 2.1 and better pop times. Profiles as a very interesting defensive first catcher.
6/13/17 - Home-1st: 4.63, Pop Time: 2.04-2.14, Position Velocity: C-71, Exit Velocity: 70 5-foot-11, 150-pound, RHH starts from an upright and slightly open stance with some looseness, uses a high leg kick and stride, stays tall throughout his swing which causes him to be a little steep through contact. Defensively, showed good hands and fluid footwork, exchange was clean, could add some quickness behind the plate to cut down pop time.
