Power / Speed Score
A simple calculation that divides the athlete’s Exit Velocity Max by the athlete’s 60 Yard Dash time for the given event year. For example, 98 MPH / 7.00s = 14.00.
A fastball with hop has a flat approach angle and visually jumps through the zone. When thrown up in the zone, it is more likely to generate a higher swing and miss average. Hop+ of 100 is MLB average.
Fastball
Sink+
A fastball with sink has low backspin and drops through the strike zone. When thrown down in the zone, it is more likely to generate a higher ground ball percentage and lower launch angle. Sink+ of 100 is MLB average.
Fastball
Rise+
A fastball with rise has a high percentage of backspin. When thrown up in the zone, it is more likely to generate a higher fly ball percentage. Rise+ of 100 is MLB average
Physical: Long and projectable 6-foot-5, 195-pound frame with length in the limbs, good mound presence with increasing strength as he matures. Virginia Tech commit.
Pitching: RHP - Stretch only while starting from the left side of the rubber, medium leg lift with good direction towards the plate / high level mechanics throughout the delivery with moderate pace, above average extension on the release out of a high ¾ slot (full arm circle). Low effort on an 83-85 mph FB with 2149 rpms of spin per Trackman Baseball, fills it up with advanced command on all sides of the plate. Mixed in a solid 67-69 mph CB with late depth and 11/5 shape, up to 1931 spin. Countered with a 74-76 mph CH showing slight arm-side fade and ability to pair up and create deception off of the FB. Able to throw any of the three pitches for strikes in any count, gets ahead and keeps hitters off balance, velocity continues to climb and wouldn’t be shocking to see a huge jump over the next year / advanced feel.
6/15/20
Physical: 6-foot-4, 195 pounds; big, long frame with plenty of room for added weight.
Pitching: Starts in the set in the middle of the rubber, small leg lift into a medium stride to the plate. Moderate take back with a high 3/4 arm slot. FB: T 84MPH, 81-84 MPH. Plays well up in the zone with some ride. CB: 64-69 MPH. short-breaking 12-6 actions. CH: 74-76 MPH. Throws with the same arm speed as the fastball.
2/29/20
Physical: 6-foot-4, 196-pounds. Lean, projectable frame. Pitching: Worked from the stretch; Leg lift to the belt, stays balanced and in line through stride out with a repeatable release and follow through against a strong front side. Long, loose arm action to a clean 3/4 release. FB: T82, 81-82 MPH. Pounds the zone with downhill plane. CB: MPH. Good feel for it with 11-5 tight break. CH: 74-75 MPH. Maintains hand speed with fade down to arm side.
6/28/19
6-foot-4, 195-pound righty has an extremely projectable frame with room to add another 15 to 20 pounds of strength. He sat 78-81 out of a 3/4 arm slot with a long arm motion. Showed feel for a curveball that showed 10/4 rotation and more slider action when thrown harder. The pitch varied in velocity with more depth at 62-63 and more break at 64-65. Utilized an effective changeup at 70-72 routinely in any count for swing and misses. The potential is evident for significant velocity spikes moving forward, especially if the arm action and pace of delivery are sped up. Went the distance for a complete game shutout during his appearance.
3/02/19
6-foot-4, 195-pound righty sat 79-81 from a long, loose 3/4 arm slot. Slider at 63-66 showed slurve action varying between 10/4 and 11/5 rotation. Changeup is a quality third pitch thrown with good sell at 70-73 with consistent arm-side run. Long, projectable frame and repeatable mechanics project for additional velocity in the coming years.
10/27/18
6-foot-4, 195-pound righty participated as a member of Team Pennsylvania at the 2018 PBR Jr. Future Games. The freshman sat 79-80 from a high 3/4 arm slot with arm-side run to his fastball. Mechanics are deliberate and repeatable. Should see velocity spikes as he becomes more explosive with his lower half. Curveball sat 65-67 with 10/4 rotation. Pounds the zone with the pitch, but it flattens out at times when he gets around the pitch. Shenosky's changeup sat 68-71 at fastball arm speed.
1/20/18
6-foot-4, 190-pound primary pitcher sat 73-75 from a 3/4 arm slot with solid command of his fastball and a repeatable delivery. Slows arm speed on changeup at 63-65. Curveball is an advanced pitch with two plane break at 60-61 with 2/8 rotation. Right-handed hitter starts from a slightly open stance and initiates his swing with a leg-hang stride. Shows good balance and a feel for the barrel with a bat exit velocity of 80 mph. Developing skill set behind the plate. Advanced frame may dictate the move to first base in the near future. Showcased pop times of 2.44-2.52 on throws of 68 mph from the crouch.
