You knew Sam White (West Virginia, Freshman) was going to be relied upon to provide the Canadian squad some offense and he delivered, going 7-for-21 with a double and just three punchouts. The left-handed hitter had second best AVG, OBP, OPS on the team and was one of the top run producers, behind Naylor.
White’s hit tool has always stood out, along with his feel for the strike zone. Where he fits defensively has always been a talking point and he manned first base in 7 of the 8 games. It will be interesting to see how White’s bat plays in the Big 12 over the next 3-4 years.

Every time you see Sam White you know what you’re going to get… Aggressive but selective, limits the strikeouts and is usually one of the best hitters on the field. That was the case again in the Dominican. The West Virginia commit went 13-for-44 (.295) with two doubles, nine walks, a sac fly and a stolen base. The 5-foot-11, 205-pound West Virginia commit got playing time at first base and catcher but it’s long been the approach and hit tool that drives scouts to the field to watch him. Stat line: .295 AVG | .415 OBP | 13-for-44 | 2 2B | 6 R | 9 RBI | 9 BB | 8 K | SB

After a quiet game one, 2022 Sam White (West Virginia commit) came alive in his final two games. He one hopped the centre field fence Thursday night and then did the same thing to right field the following day. Four hits in the final two games and there’s lots to like in the left-handed swing. White continues to be one of the top bats every time we see him as he continues to flash the extra-base power. Also of note, White manned third base during the week and didn’t step behind the dish.

White, 5-foot-11, 195-pounds, put together a very professional round at the plate at OBJ Scout Day. White is a pure hitter, who’s bat will get him into any lineup. He didn’t miss a barrel in his whole round, the most consistent hitter on the day. White was consistently in the 90’s for exit velo and topped at 100 mph. White showed out behind the play and on the infield as well. Behind the dish, he popped a consistent 1.84-1.94 with a top velo of 80 mph. On the infield, he showed good actions with an INF velo of 89 mph. It’s no secret that the West Virginia commit is a top hitter in his class.

Hitters hit, and White was the epitome of that today. White dominated pitching all day, banging out three doubles - two to the opposite field. Over his last two games he has five doubles and he sprays the ball all over. At this point, against Canada's best, White makes the case that he's country's best hitter every time he gets in the box. It's under control, he's strong, and he wants to do damage every time.
