After having one of the better overall days during the workout, Cheong showed very well during game 1 of the Future Games, taking home the Player of the Game honors. He led off the game with a hard hit ball back up the middle, and immediately stole 2nd base showing off his 6.64 60-yard speed. Cheong has twitch all over the field, displaying it in the box with impressive bat speed, and in centrefield with a quick first step and the ability to track down balls all around him. Has an aggressive approach at the plate jumping on fastballs early in the count and drives the ball with authority all over the field. Had a max EV of 93 mph during the workout. With the tools Cheong possesses, he’ll be a must follow as the week continues.

Cheong continues to trend upwards coming into the 2023 season with another strong showing at the dish with a twitchy swing from the right-side. Took one of the better rounds on the weekend scorching balls to the big part of the park with a max exit velocity of 98.2 with a wood bat. During the live AB portion of the event, he was patient at the plate, staying within his approach with 2 BB, before barreling up a single to LF. The 2x Junior Future Gamer is one of the top 2026’s in the province and showed why once again.

Cheong’s game has really developed nicely since the fall. An XL athletic 5-foot-10, 160-pound frame continues to get stronger and the movements are much more twitchy as he started his day off with a 6.45 60-yard time. On the infield, he looked more comfortable and accurate with the arm than last summer as he finished with the top INF velo at 87 mph. In the box, he showed whip in the barrel with bat speed. The ball jumps off his bat when he catches it out front with pop to the pull-side. Really good overall showing from the 2X Junior Future Gamer and one of the top 2026’s in the country.

Cheong, a 5-foot-9 160-pound middle infielder for the Toronto Mets showed off all his tools on the day. Early on speed stood out for Cheong running the top 60 yard time at 6.63. In the field the footwork is clean with good range to his right and left, made some tough plays look easy up the middle, arm has some life on it with a short quick release. Had one of the top infield velo at 81mph. At the plate the swing is very twitchy with an aggressive lower half living mostly pull side, showed some pop catching the ball out front. Cheong has filled out over the offseason and will be an interesting name to keep an eye on.

Cheong, 5-foot-9, 160-pounds, was a force at the dish and had himself a weekend at the Ontario Youth Team Tryouts. Cheong looked the part on the field being the youngest player there trying out, he had multiple hits to his pull side for line drive singles. He’s a toolsy player that plays the game with style. The former JFG is still eligible to be in Lakepoint this year, as the bat, speed, and glove have been on display all year round.

Our first look at 2025 SS Philip Cheong this year and he continues to stand out as one of the top players in his class. Body is looking leaner after the winter, now 5-foot-9, 150-pounds. Now consistently hits the 90s with his exit velocity and the swing is looking more physical, now looking to do more damage. One of the more gifted 2025s on the infield with his combination of actions, footwork and arm strength. Good start to the year for one of Ontario's top 2025s.
