O’Rae (Milwaukee Brewers) has dominated every time out for Team Canada this year and typically been the most productive player. Although he wasn't their offensive leader this time around, he continued to do Dylan O’Rae things and was still no doubt one of the most impactful players on the team.
He led the team in runs scored (6), tied for the team lead in extra-base hits (2) and swiped three bases. His constant success on the offensive side starts with his ability to put the ball in play, as shown by his one strikeout in 28 plate appearances. O’Rae heads into his first full pro season with lots of optimism after reaching base at a .424 clip in 33 plate appearances in rookie league with Milwaukee.
Stat Line: .231/.286/.308 | 6-for-26 | 2 2B | 6 R | RBI | 2 BB | 1 K | 3 SB (1 CS)
O’Rae continues to be the spark plug offensively for this Canadian team out of the lead off spot. He consistently puts up quality at-bats against pro pitchers, going 12-for-42 (.286) on the trip with a .508 OBP. He was a menace on the bases once again, swiping 10 bags and was only caught three times. His true impact can be felt by this stat: He scored 21 runs in the DR and the next best on the team scored 7. Not to mention he struck out just five times, while picking up 16 walks. Undersized middle infielder at 5-foot-9, 160-pounds but his ability to get on base against elite competition and move himself around the bases make him one of the most impactful draft eligible high school position players in Canada.
Stat line: .286 AVG | .508 OBP | 12-for-42 | 2 2B, 3B | 21 R | 5 RBI | 16 BB | 5 K | 10 SB | 3 HBP
Middle infielder Dylan O’Rae (Illinois commit) has easily been the most productive player here in Arizona this past week with his hit tool and speed. He’s racked up six hits in the past two games alone with two of them going for a double and triple. When he’s gotten on first base, he’s usually been at second base within two pitches. Not only can he fly but he reads the game well on the base paths. Really good showing so far from the draft eligible Ontario native.
There's no question Dylan O'Rae is the fastest player on Team Canada. The Illinois commit might not be overwhelming in stature, but no one in Dunedin is beating him in a race. O'Rae ran a 6.48, and then ran again to the tune of a 6.44. We've seen him enough this summer to know that his speed translates to the field, and while there's barrel feel in BP, he'll torture pitchers on the bases if he can find ways to get on regularly.
