Langley Blaze Pro Tour - Quick Hits

Cam Black-Araujo
Lead Scout, PBR Canada

Our staff arrived in Arizona on Sunday to begin watching the Langley Blaze Pro Tour. The team is filled with some of the top 2022s and 2023s across the country and we watched them take on Dodgers prospects on Sunday, Gateway College and PGS Academy on Monday followed by Arizona Christian High School on Tuesday.

Our staff was on hand to take it all in with social coverage and we begin to break down everything we saw from the first three days of the trip.

Dylan O'Rae SS / Northern, ON / 2022

Middle infielder Dylan O’Rae (Illinois commit) has easily been the most productive player here in Arizona this past week with his hit tool and speed. He’s racked up six hits in the past two games alone with two of them going for a double and triple. When he’s gotten on first base, he’s usually been at second base within two pitches. Not only can he fly but he reads the game well on the base paths. Really good showing so far from the draft eligible Ontario native.

Parker Burgess RHP / 1B / St. Peters Catholic, ON / 2023

2023 RHP Parker Burgess (Illinois commit) had the best showing on the mound our staff has seen so far in Arizona. He came on in the 8th inning and struck out the first batter he faced with three consecutive fastballs at 94 mph. He proceeded to sit 92-94 through two dominant innings where he didn’t need to use the breaking ball much. He punched out five and flashed a breaking ball at 73-75. It’s not the best we’ve seen his breaking ball but he didn’t need it much on Monday night.

Nathan Kirkpatrick SS / 2B / Langley , BC / 2022

2022 Nathan Kirkpatrick (Saint Mary’s commit) has been another bat to really jump out this week. 5-foot-11, 178-pound middle infielder who’s had several multi-hit performances. The Langley Blaze product had two hits on Monday and another three on Tuesday. He’s a pure hitter from the right-side who’s shown the ability to lift for some power as well.

Anson McGorman RHP / SS / Vauxhall Academy of Baseball, AB / 2022

2023 RHP Anson McGorman (Utah commit) has been the best West Coast arm our staff has seen so far in Arizona. He took the mound against a good lineup of Dodgers hitters and was able to get outs, with not a ton of hard contact. The fastball sat 91-93 and was able to hit spots throughout his outing. There was a lot of fastball’s but he mixed a slider at 81-82 and a changeup at 85.

Sam Shaw SS / 3B / Lambrick Park Secondary, BC / 2023

Although 2023 OF Sam Shaw (Xavier commit) hasn’t been racking up the hits this week like other names here, he’s certainly had the loudest hit we’ve seen over the past few days. He took a thigh-high fastball deep over the right field fence for a no-doubt home run. The bat speed has been on display this week and he consistently puts up quality at-bats and has taken his fair share of walks. One of the top 2023 prospects in Canada.

Hayden Miller SS / RHP / Salisbury School, CT / 2022

Although he’s not Canadian, there’s no doubt Hayden Miller (College of Charleston commit) has been one of the best bats these past few days in Phoenix. It’s a strong right-handed bat from Connecticut who blasted a home run on Tuesday and has had a ton of hard contact throughout the three days of games. The bat will be the carrying tool going forward but he’s shown this week that it can play against some high-level competition.
