Power / Speed Score
A simple calculation that divides the athlete’s Exit Velocity Max by the athlete’s 60 Yard Dash time for the given event year. For example, 98 MPH / 7.00s = 14.00.
A 5-foot-9, 160-pound athletic frame; SS/2B. During batting practice, the right-handed hitter recorded an exit velocity of 78 mph. Begins in a balanced stance with a small load, then uses a short stride to start his swing. Exhibits a straight-to-the-ball swing plane and average bat speed, and he ends his swing with a high finish. In BP, shows a pull and flat approach with mostly barrels. While in the infield, showed ability to throw up to 74 mph across the field; displayed quick footwork, a quick exchange and next level hands. Showing very consistent accuracy to the bag, he used a loose arm action with a slot. He clocked a 60 time of 7.39 at the event.
6/11/19
Rising sophomore right-handed hitter with some strength in his 5-foot-9, 160-pound build. Minimal pre-swing movement allows him to keep head still and repeat swing, but also doesn’t allow him to fully tap into his power potential (80-mph exit velocity). Barrel leaks off shoulder toward catcher before hands trigger, which creates some length in his otherwise flat path. More explosion from lower half and a bit of pre-swing hand rhythm would help him maximize bat speed. Defensively, he field the baseball cleanly and posted 73-mph arm strength across the diamond. Some tendency to go straight at the baseball, which led to left foot staggered in front of body and a need to reset feet toward first base to make the throw. Ran a 7.19 60-yard dash.
9-9-18 A developing 5-foot-8, 143-pound frame. Offensively, the right-handed hitter bats from a slightly open, balanced, and quiet set-up with a slight crouch. Uses a simple and smooth load and short stride before pulling his hands through a flat path to extension with some length. In BP, shows an all fields and flat approach, mostly barrels, 75 mph exit velo. Runs an advanced 7.06 60 for his age. Defensively, is advanced in the outfield for his age, showing good routes, quick twitch actions, with good feet. Always coming through the ball, using a quick shuffle instead of a crow hop, and getting rid of the ball quickly with a short arm stroke coming through a high- slot with accuracy at 74 mph from the outfield.
