6-foot-2, 200-pound solid, physical body frame. Can play at two positions, from first-base he moves well around the bag showing some athleticism, with good footwork. From the crouch he has the right idea but does require a little effort from the position, he did have good accuracy on his throws to second. Showed some arm strength reaching pop times between 2.07-2.13 at a top velocity of 77 mph. Right-handed hitter starts with an open stance getting back to even, using a leg kick for power. Stride can get a little long at times shows the ability to use both sides of the field. Showed a little pop in his bat. He ran a solid 4.29 down to first base, which is good for both of the positions he plays.
2/17/14
At this stage, Burns is an interesting prospect. It is tough to tell his position at the next level. With a solid, physical frame, he has the body type that translates to being a backstop, but inevitably, it wouldn't surprise me to see him find a home at first base. But, behind the plate, he showed potential with pop times between 2.06 to 2.16. His actions require some effort, which brings into play the repeatability and game play actions. Nonetheless, he is a definite prospect to follow. The right-handed hitter starts with an open stance. He uses a big of a leg kick in his swing and utilizes an aggressive lower half. His path to the ball is short and he creates solid contact to all fields. He shows some juice in his swing as the ball jumps off his bat with obvious pull power.
11/2/13
6-foot-2, 200 pound right handed hitting catcher, that could also be a first baseman at the next level. Big strong frame that shows athleticism at times. The 2015 grad ran a 7.12 60 yard dash time. Behind the plate, Burns registered a top arm velocity of 77 mph. He also recorded pop times between 2.07 and 2.21. His best tool is his right handed stick. Using a tall open stance and leg kick stride, Burns takes a powerful cut at every pitch. The ball consistently jumps of his bat, making him a middle of the lineup guy. Pull tendencies in swing. Offers impressive bat speed topping out at 92 mph off the tee.
7/29/13
6-foot-2, 195-pound prospect with big frame. Moved well off the bag at first base. Uses short arm action and high ¾ arm slot with accurate throws on double play balls. Reached top velocity of 72 mph. Behind the plate, he shows similar arm action. Reached a top velocity of 77 mph. Pop times ranged between 2.06-2.19 and will only get better as he shorten and quickens his footwork. Offensively, he starts with an open stance. Uses a leg kick. Shows lots of movement in his swing. Quick hands with top exit velocity of 89 mph off the tee. Consistent line drive production. Doubled to left-center in game play. Ran a 4.4 time out of the box.
