Last Chance Preview – Downstate (October 28, 2018)
Wide, durable frame with strong build at 6-foot-2, 195-pounds. Offensively – Sets up in a balanced stance with feet square to pitcher. Slight knee bend and hinge at the hips in posture. Loads on backside with leg kick before taking controlled forward stride. Keeps hands tight to the body and allows the barrel to work behind the baseball. Swing path is level thru the zone with a high finish after contact. High waist and firm front leg allow him to create easy leverage in swing. Projects to add more power with additional strength. Defensively – Deliberate tempo at 3b with balanced defensive actions. Stays under control when moving laterally. Doesn’t get rushed when approaching the ball. Stays in wide, balanced set up while funneling. Keeps head down to the ball with flat upper body before getting into exchange. Long, loose arm action. Keeps momentum behind throws. Pitching – Simple, repeatable delivery with steady tempo to throwing motion. Stays and balanced at leg lift. Shows some bend on backside as he pushes off rubber while getting into forward stride. Maintains level shoulder plane at landing with clean direction towards target. Arm action has slight hesitation at hand break but shows loose, whippy finish. High ¾ release point that creates tough angle when ball is down in the zone. Additional strength will make it easier to stabilize body with front leg at release.
