Power / Speed Score
A simple calculation that divides the athlete’s Exit Velocity Max by the athlete’s 60 Yard Dash time for the given event year. For example, 98 MPH / 7.00s = 14.00.
Wide shoulders from a nice looking frame standing 6-foot-1, 175-pounds. Moves well laterally defensively. Arm swing is longer, with loose actions and quick release (75 arm strength). Relaxed in the box. Smooth load/separation as the pitch is delivered. Barrel gets to the ball quickly on a level plane, could benefit by staying extended through contact longer. Puts the ball in play consistently.
Preseason-East (February 22, 2018)
May is a 6-foot-0 175 pound SS/3B with an athletic frame. He ran a Home to 1st time of 4.38. Offensively- Sets up with a slight open stance and moderate leg kick into his load. Exit velo was 83 MPH off a tee, this was a big improvement from his previous high of 75 MPH. Hands are kept low with little movement; uses his lower half well into his launch. Was able to produce line drives to the pull side and through the middle of the field with a repeatable short stroke. Strong presence at the plate Defensively - Sets up low and shows good lateral movement. Infield velo was 78 MPH which was also an improvement from his previous high of 72 MPH; releases over the top and can drop down. Hands funnel beneath the body and moves well through the ball, an infielder to watch as he continues to mature.
Preseason All-State (February 20, 2017)
Athletic 5-foot-11 165 pound SS who ran a 7.36 60. Offensively- Spread stance; short load and stride for timing. Aggressive lower half rotation as he stays behind the ball. Some early leveling in the zone but showed the ability to stays with line drive results through the middle and to his pull side gap. Balanced approach; will develop into a middle of the order threat. Exit velocity was 75 MPH. Defensively- Slight lean at the belt with setup; hangs back a bit on his heels with approach. More aggression into the ball and working through will help funnel momentum into his footwork and release. Arm strength peaked at 72 MPH. Decent overall foundation and with some fine tuning defensively, should project well over the next few years.
