USA CNT TRIALS:A two-year stalwart in the Maryland rotation, Savacool earned second-team All-America honors as a sophomore, going 8-3, 2.93 with 128 strikeouts against 28 walks in 107.2 innings to lead the Terps to their first-ever home regional. He worked two scoreless appearances during CNT training camp, though he issued four walks and did not strike out a batter. With a sturdy 6-foot-1, 210-pound frame, Savacool is built like an innings-eater, though his uptempo delivery has some effort and he finishes well to the first base side, sometimes off balance — once even landing flat on his belly after delivering a pitch. His calling card is a low-spin sinker at 89-92 with heavy arm-side sink, and he complements it with an average 83-85 slider, a bigger-breaking version at 80-82 that might be a curveball or perhaps just a manipulated version of the slider, and a good 86-88 mph splitter with very low spin. He’s a dogged competitor who proved he can fill up the strike zone in the spring, though his command wasn’t as sharp as usual with Team USA.
7/24/18
Solid 6-foot-1 195 pound frame with a strong lower half; works center rubber with a slight coil up to his balance point. Arm action says long and loose working through a 3/4 slot; controlled temp with arm speed out in front. FB sat 88-91 MPH, touching 92 MPH. Threw both a traditional CB at 77-78 MPH and a late, sharp action slider at 82-83 MPH. Showed the change at 80-81 MPH but was used sparingly as he was slotted for one inning. Continues to impress with a 4 pitch mix and high mound IQ. Was upper 80's to 92 MPH over his last two outings in the postseason, holding the velocity into the later innings.
6/25/17
Athletic 5-foot-11 right-hander with a projectable body, one of the top pitching prospects in the entire state as a 2020 graduate; uses height to get downward plane on fastball at 82-86 MPH that touches 87 MPH, late action results in weak contact, loose and fluid arm action, maintains motion with curveball at 71-72, a few at 74 MPH with feel for spin and command.
2/20/16
Savacool stands a lean 5-foot-11, 160-pounds with long legs and a frame with weight projection. Pitching- On the mound he uses a slight side-step, smooth rhythmic tempo in his delivery, high knee-lift, hands stay shoulder height before they start to break as he drives forward. He uses a long stride with proper direction towards home-plate, shows the ability to use hip and shoulder separation, from a clean workable arm-action. Releases the ball from a power high 3/4-slot with some depth/run on his fastball sitting 79-80 mph, above average for a 2020 graduate. Curveball shows fastball hand-speed with the ability to spin the ball, 12/5 shape sitting 70-72. He also throws a change-up sitting 72-74, slightly hard and on one-plane. Overall the projection for Savacool on the mound is exciting, loose whippy arm with arm-strength, body projection, and the feel for spinning the baseball. High follow this spring and summer.
