Projectable frame with lean build at 6-foot-1, 155-pounds. Pitching – Simple, repeatable delivery with clean direction towards catcher. Tall and balanced at leg lift with weight stacked over backside. Maintains height as he breaks hands and gets into forward stride. Front side stays in with tight glove side at landing. Smooth, projectable arm action with hand speed out front. Creates leverage with high ¾ release. Shows extension over front leg and maintains quiet, still head position. Flashed 3-pitch mix. Kept FB intent on both CB and CH. Continues to show quality feel for pitching.
Lean Athletic build with smooth mechanics. Shows mid ¾ release point with good drive down the mound. Fastball sits 77-79 MPH and peaked at 82 MPH. CB sat 68-70 MPH with good sweeping action and was consistent in the strike zone.
Preseason - West (February 19, 2018)
Crook stands 6-foot-0, 150-pounds (up ten pounds since August) with a wiry build. Pitching- He uses an easy tempo to his delivery, belt high knee lift with his hands up around his head. He uses great hip and should extension, pulls a little early on his front side before he releases from a high 3/4 slot, long clean arm-swing, fastball peaked at 83 MPH sitting 82-83 MPH almost every pitch. Solid feel for the change-up using FB hand-speed getting the ball out in front and letting it fade naturally. Upper 60's curve/slider that at times he got around the ball with some side-to-side action up in the zone. When he gets it out in front there's some sharp depth. Overall, Crook is continuing to develop and advance on the mound each time we see him. Once he starts physically adding weight the CNY righty has the arm to throw mid-upper 80's.
Campus Series-Oswego (August 15, 2017)
Crook stands a very lean 5-foot-11, 140-pounds with a frame that is capable of holding more weight. Pitching- Simple mechanics, high knee lift, long fluid arm-action, fastball sitting 79-81 MPH with downward tilt, easy action with more velocity projected to come. Significant bump in velocity from February where he was 75-76 MPH. Curveball sat 65-67 with some loose spin, changeup was 68 with fastball handspeed, one plane.
Preseason All-State (February 20, 2017)
Crook checks in at a lean 5-foot-10 130 pounds. He ran a 7.91 60. Pitching- Starts mid rubber using a short and controlled side step up to a mid-chest balance point with a slight coil. Stride is slightly to the 3B side with an open front foot; works through front knee vs. up and over with moderate arm extension. Arm action was short on the arm swing, working through a high 3/4 arm slot. FB sat 75-76 MPH with some sink and occasional arm side run. CB had early action with more lateral movement at 65-66 MPH. Showed a change at 67-68 MPH. Room for physical gains and increased arm speed; expect a jump in velocity over the next few years as his foundation and frame can support it.
