Physical: Compact, athletic 5-foot-9, 185lb frame with feel. 7.21 runner in the 60-yard dash.
Offensively: RHH - Upright, slightly open stance with some tempo pre-swing. Utilized a barrel tip on time with a toe-tap stride to initiate the barrel through a slightly uphill, high intent operation. Whipped towards impact at the front of the plate with consistency, able to match plane and produce loud pull-side contact when synced up. Carried a loud batting practice round over to in-game success with multiple extra-base hits including a couple HR’s, recording a T102 mph bat-exit velocity at his peak (via Trackman). Twitchy top of the order type bat that can affect the game in one swing.
Defensively: The primary shortstop bounced around during defensive evals. Arrived on time with a clean, wider setup in the base, flashing a soft glove hand out in front. Funneled cleanly, gaining ground to the target with a glove-tap before release from a quick, shorter H ¾ slot (fluid, accurate, 85 mph arm).
2/18/20
Physical: 5-foot-8, 180-pounds. Strong, filled out frame. 6.92 runner in the 60; 4.26 home-to-1B. Offensively: RHH. Upright, slightly open stance, hands at shoulder level, hands come back slowly along with a slow, small leg kick. Plus, bat speed, barrel gets to the ball quickly, swing works upwards to and through point of contact, violent swing. Lots of hard, high line drives to pull-side gap. 96 MPH raw exit velocity. Defensively: Uses a prep step for timing, smooth footwork, glides to the ball, exaggerated shuffle to get rid of the ball. Quick arm swing with a 3/4 slot. INF - 88 MPH.
Preseason - East (February 22, 2018)
Barbero is a 5-foot-5 130 pound SS/2B with a slight frame. He ran a 4.59 Home to 1st time. Offensively - Sets up with a slight open stance and little leg kick. Exit velo was 81 MPH off a tee. Produced line drives to the pull side with a short compact stroke with hands held low in his set-up and launch; used his lower half well and attacked the baseball. Defensively - Balanced set-up and keeps a low profile in his approach; showed soft hands. Will need to continue to work hands through the ball with lower half momentum; good lateral movement. Arm was 70 MPH across the diamond. Excellent defender for his grad class.
