Anthony DeRosa did a fine job at third base throughout the course of the Battle on the Border. Playing through a sore shoulder, the hit-first prospect showed solid defensive tools highlighted by much improved foot work. His arm strength was lacking but he did a nice job of showing a fundamental approach to his throwing mechanics. At the plate, he seemed to be bothered by the shoulder which slowed his bat down early. Later in the game, however, he exhibited the pop by scorching a ball deep to left field. DeRosa has the ability to hit the two-run homerun or the bases clearing double at any time and that is what makes him so fun to watch. Look for a couple programs to want to make a big splash in the recruiting scene by picking up his hard-hitting corner infielder.
NJ Underclass Games (September 20, 2015)
DeRosa once again showed why he should be one of the most sought after offensive players in the state’s 2017 class. He had an excellent round of batting practice, proving to have the event’s best raw power. He had a couple of hard hits in game against some high quality pitching. He is a solid defender who plays third base with instincts and arm strength. He also got on the mound and was a bit raw. He pitched with his fastball between 77-80 miles-per-hour. He will be as a high level 3B prospect.
NJ Open (August 5, 2015)
Derosa is a very physical, broad shouldered corner infielder from Red Bank Catholic. He is a very solid 6-foot-0, 205 pound athlete who will continue to lean out and get stronger. DeRosa is a very impressive hitter with bat speed and the ability to hit the ball hard from gap-to-gap. He hits from an athletic and balanced stance and gets a good load. His lower half is explosive and his bat speed is already very good. He had a very good day in the game portion of the event as well, hitting a couple balls hard and deep. He generates back spin on line drives and the ball jumps off of his bat. His only knock offensively may be his speed as a 3B but he hits enough to play 1B at the next level. Defensively, he showed 81 mile-per-hour arm strength. He has a fundamental approach to fielding the routine grounder and he does a nice job of allowing his athleticism take over on the reactionary ball.
