Name: Anthony DeRosa
High School: Red Bank Catholic
Position(s): 3B/1B
Projected Position: 3B
Background
DeRosa is a 2017 third baseman from Red Rank Catholic who is an already physical 6-feet tall, 205 pounds. His broad shoulders suggest that he may be able to carry additional size but he is already physically mature. DeRosa had a very nice day at our New Jersey Open ID event which has put him in the top half of the initial New Jersey 2017 Player Rankings and he will be one to watch at the Underclass Games on September 20th.
Scouting Report
His frame and 60-yard dash time (7.56) suggest that he is a third or first base prospect which would mean that he would have to hit in order to play with below average speed, and he does. DeRosa is an impressive hitter for his age, showing 90 mile-per-hour exit velocity off of the tee and translating it well, both in batting practice and in games. He has a simple approach at the plate and is not afraid to trust his hands with two strikes. He has the ability to hit good pitches in pitchers’ counts. He hits from an athletic base and uses a simple load of his weight and hands. He looks to hit the ball from gap-to-gap and can do so with some pop in the bat. Defensively, DeRosa shows good hands and good foot work. He breaks his hands near his chest and consistently makes accurate throws. Just 81 MPH across the diamond, DeRosa does a fine job of working through his throws toward his target. I expect DeRosa to field a lot of division one interest.
