With four home runs in nine games entering Friday’s contest against Maryland, Alderman homered on the third pitch he saw from Maryland right-hander Jason Savacool. His weekend ended with just that lone home run, yet he finished 4-for-12 to continue his strong production of .370/.444/.761 to begin the 2023 season. Big, strong and very athletic at 6-foot-3, 240 pounds, Alderman reminds me of a more nimble Evan Gattis, the former Braves and Astros catcher/outfielder. While continuing to show the tool he’s best known for; huge raw power that produces consistent triple digit exit velocities, Alderman also showed improved discipline at the plate. He continues to cut his strikeouts down from the 58 that he had in 240 plate appearances (24.1%) last spring to eight in 54 (14.8%) plate appearances this spring. He’s also a 6.7 runner that throws plus from the outfield. Safely projecting as a third to fourth round talent as an outfielder, Alderman also midweek’s as a catcher. The team that believes he could be at least serviceable in a part-time role at that position will likely select him a round earlier than the aforementioned.

Rising Hitter: Big, strong and very athletic at 6-foot-3, 240 pounds, one could easily envision Alderman running a Dig route over the middle on the gridiron for Lane Kiffin’s Rebels’ squad. Instead the right handed slugger had an outstanding fall, batting close to .500 while continuing to show the tool he’s best known for; huge raw power that produces consistent triple digit exit velocities. Alderman also showed more polish at the plate, cutting his strikeouts way down from the 58 that he had in 240 plate appearances last spring. He’s also a 6.7 runner that throws 95+ from the outfield.
