Updated 2020 Ranking Release
February 28, 2018
Today, Prep Baseball Report Mississippi updates its Class of 2020 rankings. Although it is still extremely early to forecast 2020 prospects, especially with some players still waiting to record varsity innings, the acceleration of recruiting process has already led to some of the top 2020 prospects pledging their commitments to schools.
It’s been several months since we last updated the Class of 2020 rankings, but as we have worked our way through the fall and winter, both on the state and national levels, more light has been shed on this talented and deep class. There has been plenty of shakeup throughout the list, which has now been expanded to 50 players.
+ Mississippi State recruits, 3B Kellum Clark (Jackson Academy) and SS Peyton Puckett (Tupelo) remain at No’s. 1 and 2, respectively, of the updated rankings. Clark is an imposing figure for his age at 6-foot-4, 221 pounds. The left-handed power combined with his overall approach at the plate ranks him as one of the best in the nation and is why he checked in at No. 7 in the 2020 Overall Rankings update. Puckett has a projectable 6-foot, 185-pound frame with room for to continued growth and added strength and has already shown early in his career the potential to turn into a premium middle-of-the-field defender with quality arm strength.
+ Mississippi recruit, C/RHP Kemp Alderman (Newton Academy) checks in at No. 3 as the primary catcher has shown explosive bat speed with pull side power potential as well as impressive arm strength on the mound with fastball touching 88-89 mph and solid sinking action.
+ Louisiana State recruit, RHP Brooks Rice (Madison Central) checks in at No. 4, as the 6-foot-2 right-hander created significant buzz last summer running his fastball up to 89-90 mph. Rice has a very high ceiling and has continued to show improved feel to pitch.
+ SS Sam Bianco (Oxford) rounds out the top five in the updated class of 2020 rankings, as a left-handed hitting middle infielder, he has shown advanced polish and feel for the game.
+ RHP/SS Lee Burrow (Hernando) climbs all the way to No. 15 after an impressive performance during Dulin Dodger Scout Day. With a long, projectable 6-foot-5 frame Burrow displayed a long, loose arm stroke running his fastball up to 84 mph.
+ OF Darryl Walker (Brandon) SS/RHP Alan Kivett (Warren Central) and SS Blaise Breerwood (Poplarville) enter the rankings for the first time at No. 19, No. 20 and No. 21 respectively. Walker as the athletic left-handed hitting outfielder has shown intriguing tools and should be interesting to follow as he continues to develop his overall game. A two-way player for his high school, Kivett has shown smooth actions defensively as well as solid arm strength jumping on the mound pumping a low/mid 80’s fastball. Breerwood, who is still physically maturing displayed fluid actions on the infield with loose strokes at the plate at the recent Preseason Prospect ID.
