Lapour toed the rubber twice for the Royals Scout Team this past weekend, drawing the start on Thursday’s opening act and in their first playoff game Monday morning. The 6-foot-3, 225-pound Cincinnati commit peaked at 93 mph in both starts, holding 88-92 mph with life at the bottom of the zone throughout his outings. Lapour’s bread-and-butter secondary is a true swing-and-miss splitter with diving action in the low-80s, a pitch that plays especially well off his lower-quadrant fastball. A former PBR Future Games participant, the Bearcats should feel Lapour’s impact on the mound sooner rather than later.
Positional Profile: RHP/OF. Follow in the 2023 class.
Body: Physical, projectable 6-foot-3, 220-pound frame with present strength and athleticism.
Hit: RHH. At the plate starts in an upright, slightly closed stance. Weight shifted off his front foot. Flat swing plane through the zone. Raw athleticism and mechanics. Pull approach with flashes of pop. Quick hands through the zone.
Power: 94 mph exit velocity off the tee. Above average bat speed.
Arm: RH. OF - 92 mph. Long over-the-top arm action. Above average arm speed with carry and accuracy.
Defense: In the outfield, displays solid actions with quick footwork and release. Direct routes to field with a good glove.
Run: 4.27 runner in the 60.
Delivery: On the mound uses a slow, controlled rocker-step to a tall balance point. Aggressive down the mound with good direction and intent. Athletic, tall finish.
Arm Action: RH. Long high- arm speed. Above average arm speed.
FB: 85-87 mph, slight run action. Ball jumps out of hand.
CB: 72-77 mph, 11/5 break with developing feel.
SP: 76-79 mph, varying tumble action with some feel.
At 6-foot-3, 225-pounds, Lapour certainly doesn’t lack starter’s size or strength, and his ability to hold upper-80s-to-low-90s velocity stems from his stature. He features one of the nastiest secondary offerings in this entire class - a true swing-and-miss splitter with downward tumble from a near identical arm slot to his fastball.
