6/17/19

6-foot-2, 205-pound right-handed hitting shortstop. U. of Nebraska commit. #3 ranked player in state and #330 in PBR Overall for 2020 class. 6.88 runner. Has real barrel strength through zone, drives baseball with authority, has pop in bat to both gaps, 92 mph exit velocity. Athletic in field, moves well to cover ground, accurate arm with above avg. carry to bag, profiles as college third baseman or right fielder with athleticism and strength. 89 mph arm across infield.

2018 PBR Future Games- Offensive stand-out in event. Went 4/5 with 3 singles, a double, 4 walks, and 6 RBI’s.

6/17/18- 6-foot-2, 200-pound right-handed hitting shortstop. #199 ranked player in PBR Overall. Present strength in lean athletic frame. 7.00 runner. Body load, solid bat speed, lift through contact, routinely squares baseball, flashes of pop in bat, 94 mph exit velocity. Active feet in field, works out front, long arm action, avg./sure hands that should continue to improve, above avg. carry and accuracy to bag, 90 mph arm across infield.

3/17/18- Though he was a bit banged up and unable to throw on the day, Steil still stood out. A physical specimen with lean strength throughout his 6-foot-2, 195-pound frame, the right-handed hitter exhibited natural feel for the barrel while remaining balanced throughout his round of batting practice. He produced an exit velocity of 95 mph off the tee, and the ball seemed to jump off his bat with minimal effort. His barrel lags in the zone on a flat path, and while the hands get a bit stagnant with his leg kick he makes up for it with advanced strength through the zone. A 6.95-runner, Steil showcased solid actions on the infield although he was not throwing. His frame may outgrow his listed, shortstop position, but he should continue to develop even more power moving forward which should make him a viable third base candidate. Overall, Steil is one of the more physical players in the class, and will likely be followed closely by recruiters throughout the summer.
