MN Class of 2020 Rankings Updated
January 11, 2019
Today we released our updated and expanded Minnesota Class of 2020 Rankings, raising the number to the Top 100 players in the state. The 2020 class has grown in depth and talent throughout the summer and fall; and currently the 2020 class has an enormous amount of depth through it's ranks.
Expect numerous updates and expansions as we continue to track the group. Projecting ahead, once we evaluate jumps in performance and development that has been made over the winter months, there could be huge shakeups ahead when we update these rankings again after our winter/spring event schedule.
The top ten players in the state have remained relatively the same since our initial list was posted in October. There has been some slight movement in the Top 50; and the rankings have grown significantly with the addition of 50 new players.
Rochester Century 2-way player and North Carolina commit Mac Horvath still holds the top spot in the MN 2020 rankings. Horvath, the 2017 PBR Future Games MVP, shows considerable promise as a pitcher and position player and looks to be a legitimate 2-way option in college. The present tools are obvious; and Horvath also shows the ability to take those tools and translate them into upper echelon performances on the field.
2020 Mac Horvath, SS/RHP, Rochester Century
Right behind is RHP/OF Max Carlson from Burnsville. Carlson, a North Carolina commit as well, is extremely polished on the mound for his age showing poise and command of a three pitch arsenal. Intriguing as well is his ability as a position player running a 6.9 60-yard dash, has been clocked as high as 94 mph from the outfield, and registering a 97 mph exit velocity.
2020 Max Carlson, RHP/OF, Burnsville
2020 Jacob Mrosko, RHP/OF, Chanhassen- holds the #3 spot in the state. The Chan product committed to Purdue at the end of the fall. Mrosko has above avg. tools across the board, similar to Horvath and Carlson he has 2-way ability, and has continued to make strides through the summer and fall seasons. Lean and athletic; Mrosko’s current ability is high and should continue to improve as he matures physically and adds strength. Currently in the upper 80’s; recent reports have been coming in of him touching even higher into the low 90’s.
2020 Jacob Mrosko, RHP/OF, Chanhassen
#4 in our rankings is left-handed hitting catcher and Missouri commit, Cody Kelly, from St. Michael-Albertville. The 2-time participant in the PBR Future Games shows a clean bat path through the zone with flashes of pop to both gaps. Kelly shows accuracy and well above avg. carry on throws to second and his receiving and blocking have improved significantly over the past year. Overall he has easy actions behind the plate, in the batter’s box, and running the bases; it’s easy to dream on the left-handed hitting back-stop and he continues to fill out his current lean athletic frame.
2020 Cody Kelly, C, St. Michael-Albertville
Rounding out the Top 5 is Nebraska commit; shortstop Jack Steil from Rocori. At 6-foot-2 and 205-pounds; Steil possesses the combination of physicality and athleticism. The multi-sport athlete runs a 6.95 60-yard dash, has thrown 90 mph across the infield, and registered an exit velocity of 95 mph. While making all of his defensively; Steil was an offensive standout at the PBR Future Games going 4/5 with three singles, a double, four walks, and collecting six RBI’s in four games. The Rocori product projects as a college third baseman or right-fielder as he continues to build upon his impressive current frame.
