Donahue is a strong 5-foot-11, 175 pound prospect. The right-handed hitting infielder had one of the more impressive exit velocities of 88 mph off the tee. The initial set up is narrow, slightly open with the hands set off the back shoulder. The load is triggered by a leg lift, that gets the weight to the back leg and the hands into the launch position. The swing-plane has some lift as the bat moves through the hitting zone. He stays on plane well through contact.
Defensively, he was 81 mph across the infield. The feet are deliberate as he moves to get into a balanced fielding position. He breaks down behind the ground ball and works through to the throwing position well. The feet create a good line with the target and he finishes through the play.
On the mound,Donahue uses a fluid, compact delivery to attack hitters. The arm works out of a lower ¾ slot, that gives his fastball that ranged 78-79 mph some late run. The breaking pitch is a good looking pitch with tight spin at 65-69 mph. He also flashed a change-up, with split-finger action at 67-69 mph.
Donahue has an interesting skill-set. The bat is a plus tool and he flashes some arm talent on the mound. He’s definitely a guy to get out and see this spring.
