7/21/20

Proto is a talented 6-foot, 155 pound right-handed pitching prospect. The delivery is short, controlled and balanced. His feet stay in line and allow him to command both sides of the plate with all of his pitches. The fastball has late sink at 78-80 MPH. The slider is a tight pitch at 69-70 mph. He also throws a slower breaking ball at 62-65 MPH and a very good change-up at 73-75 mph.

Proto knows how to pitch. The lanky right-hander knows how to change speeds and use both sides of the plate.

9/28/19

I really like the arm of this wiry 6-foot, 155 pound right-handed pitcher.  He pitches out of a modified stretch and controls the bottom half getting to the balance position.  As he heads down the mound, he really uses the legs to drive down the mound, while keeping good direction. The arm swing is a loose ¾ slot and uses both sides of the plate.  The fastball was 75-78 mph with late heavy action on both sides of the plate.  The breaking pitch is 12 to 6 with hard action and ranged 64-69 mph.  He also showed a good change up at 74-75 mph.I really like the timing of his delivery and his pitchability.  He knows how to pitch to both sides of the plate, change speeds and eye levels.  I look forward to seeing him progress.

7/16/19

6-foot, 155-pound right-handed pitcher. The arms are long and lanky, the frame can add additional weight, which in turn will aid in the velocity jump. The arm works extremely well and he shows the ability to repeat his delivery. The feet are online and the slot is slightly above 3/4 in height. The delivery is deceptive as the ball is shown late. The glove has minimal action and the lift is athletic. The fastball sat 79-80, ton of run and sink,. The spin pitch is frisbee style and sharp at times. The pitch sits at 68-69 mph. The changeup has the right action to it, sitting 72-73 mph. Very high follow for me in the 2021 class, wouldn't shock me if at this time next summer he was 86-88 with a 75 mph frisbee pitch. He shows a very good feel for pitching.

8/15/18

6-foot, 145-pound right-handed pitcher. Good looking right-hander with a good feel for pitching. The fastball touched 80 mph, arm side run to the pitch. The spin pitch is slurve, could be shortened to be a slider as he matures. The pitch has a good shape to it, and he commands it. The pitch sat 67- 72 mph. The changeup was 71-75 mph, showed correct shape and form to it. The delivery has minimal crossfire to the feet, above ¾ in slot. The lift is repeated, athletic and above waist height. The tracking of the front shoulder is done well, and there is minimal pull to the glove side of his body. Interesting follow, the frame could use additional weight.

6/28/18

6-foot, 145-pound, longer, wiry strong athletic frame, shoulders are sloped has plenty of room to fill out and add mass on. A right-handed pitcher, with a three pitch mix. The delivery is sound, controlled and compact. The hands start high, slight drop in them during rocker step and raise back up in leg raise. Looks to get to a real good gather, with some coil to the tuck, loaded on the backside. The separation is clean and on time, lead arm has good direction to plate, gets closed down. The lower half lands just so slightly across his body, catches up and finishes with easy effort. The arm action is clean and has average length to it, works out of a ¾ to high ¾ slot. The fastball was pounded down in the zone, clocked at 79 mph. The fastball has a ton more in there as he adds strength. The breaking ball is an above average pitch for his age, clocked at 66 mph, has depth, with some slider break at times, thrown for strikes. The change up was thrown for strikes as well,  has feel for it, clocked at 66 mph. Tempo and timing of the delivery were good, looked to be confident and had poise in his bullpen session. Good bloodlines, will be one of the better arms in the class of 2021 in New England, good prospect.
