RHP Landon Victorian (Barbe HS, LA) came out hot for the Mariners. The quick-armed right-hander touched 95 mph and one 96 before settling more in the 92-94 range. His heater spun quickly in the 2,500 rpm range, and he pitched around some traffic on the bases due to overthrowing and the resulting scattered control in the first. The LSU recruit settled down and filled the zone for a three up, three down second inning of work before allowing one run in the third. His slider flashed average in the low-80s and had the look of a future plus pitch.
Projectable 6'3" 185 lbs. frame; Victorian turned in a solid outing for his first start of the year for the Bucs. On a super cold and frigid morning, he was able to run his fastball up to 89 mph, while sitting 85-88 mph, and was able to hold that velocity throughout the contest, thanks to increased physicality and strength gained during the off-season. Victorian also mixed in a developing 70-73 mph "slurvish" breaking ball and a 74-76 mph changeup.
