The Illinois recruit displayed an easy action delivery, Good poise and balance through game. Repeated delivery the entire game and never lost his rhythm. FB was up to 91. 88-91 mostly 89. Relaxed arm action with CB 73 with large loop and shape. At times he bounced a few as he casted, but made the adjustment to deliver some good shaped 12-6 CB with good spin. He would smell the strike out and attack the hitters. Carmel lineup is fierce at times and he battled through a good game. Tight spot in middle innings he had to bear down and make some sure pitches and he delivered. Not the best from him, because we know what he is like when game is spot on, but he showed good poise, confidence, and never changed his demeanor. Good attitude and stuck to his plan. Gave his team a chance to win.

Illinois recruit. Tall, athletic frame with wide shoulders, has full proportioned strength throughout his entire body. A wide separated stance to start his delivery. Uses abbreviated pump with a ¾ arm slot. His FB has some life and pitches with accuracy. Firm sound range of motion to his shoulder. Has good feel for a CB and CH; pitches with confidence. Pound the strike zone mentality with aggressive controlled effort. Once Shepherd learns a more consistent tempo and controlled heart beat to his delivery he should have even better off-speed pitches to go along with an above average FB. Chance to be a starter. FB 91-93. CB 71-73. CH 85-87. SL 72-74

Calvin Shepherd (Lawrence North HS) made a significant jump in velocity since we saw him last October when he was 82-84. At Saturday's Preseason All-State the 6-foot-2, 180 pound righty ran his fastball up to 89 mph, sitting 86-88. Breaking ball flashes sharp action, while the changeup (81-84) has fade. One of the top uncommitted right-handers in the class.
10/13/19
6-foot-2, 175-pound lean frame; RHP/OF. On the mound, he has quick arm speed to the plate with a high ¾ arm angle. Balance point is an athletic during delivery. His fastball was 82-84 mph. He threw his changeup (77-79 mph) for a strike when he stayed on top. He has sharp action and low in the zone accuracy on curveball (64-65).
2/23/2019: Calvin Shepherd, RHP/OF, Lawrence North HS, 2021, 6 foot 1, 172 pounds, throws with a shorter arm action and ¾ slot. Does a good job hiding the ball with a tall front side, and ball should get on hitters with that short arm action. Fastball sat 80-84 with more in the tank, CB was 11/5 shape and sat 62-65, CH was straight as sat 74-76. Didn’t show a lot of command with his stuff on this day, but there is more mph in that arm and projectable frame. Offensively, Calvin ran 7.52 and had an exit velo of 82 mph. He shows athleticism in the box with bat speed and balance. Swing works downhill and creates line approach.
2/25/18: 60 Time: 7.52 Position Velocity: OF-78, Exit Velocity: 79
Young and athletic movements, raw frame, short simple approach at the plate. Small hand push to load, no stride, simple lift on to the front toe to swing. Partial lower half, average bat speed produced with limited movements and load. Much more in the lower half and swing. Consistent middle of the field barrels. Short, over the top arm action from the outfield, choppy footwork through the baseball. Exchange is clean with average arm strength, delivered baseball with accuracy.
Pitching: Raw frame and delivery on the mound, short arm circle out of the glove, high ¾ arm slot down the mound. Front foot lands slightly closed, delivery works through the front side and spins to finish. Regular effort down the mound, more tempo and lower half drive to be developed. Fastball has young life, late arm side action at times, mostly straight at 79-81, topping at 82. 11/5 gradual break on the breaking ball, thrown for a strike at 62-65, more arm speed needed. Changeup was thrown with slown arm, flashed some late arm side sink, 72-75.
