A Louisville signee, Detmers appears on our second team yet again, earning these same honors last year. As a senior this time around, he totaled 46 innings, striking out 77 while surrendering 20 hits. He allowed just three earned runs this season, pitching to a 0.45 ERA and 0.66 WHIP. One of the top arms in the Illinois’ 2023 class, Detmers is likely to hear his name called in the top rounds of the 2023 MLB Draft.
Louisville commit. Ranked No. 5 in the state and No. 62 overall. Detmers threw three innings with four strikeouts, two hits allowed, and one earned run. Triad did their damage in the first, the first two hitters reaching base with a hit and two runs to score, one earned. When he stepped on the mound in the second, he looked settled with a dominating presence to him. He was working with pace and attacking hitters with both his fastball and curveball, and struck out the side in the second inning. Repeatable, low-effort delivery that works in-line towards home. Fastball sat 90-92 mph in the first inning and as the game moved forward he settled in at 89-90 mph. Curveball sat 76-79 mph, produced swing-and-misses when thrown in the zone. Mixed in a changeup occasionally which sat 86-87 mph with slight fade. Premium arm in the Illinois’ 2023 class.
RHP Parker Detmers (Glenwood; Louisville), the No. 5 prospect, is yet another high-level arm in this class and he has the stuff and makeup that would typically earn him No. 1 type of status in a class, which speaks to just how talented this 2023 Illinois class is. Detmers has all kinds of pedigree and has long been one of the top prospects in the state thanks to his strong, workhorse frame, athletic delivery, clean arm, high-volume of strikes and starter profile. His fastball sits comfortably at 89-93 mph and his breaking ball works in the mid-to-upper 70s with above average feel and the ability to manipulate shape and location depending on the count and situation. He has a high-level of compete on the mound and thrives in big games which should serve him well in the future. Detmers is yet another arm pro scouts will need to track down and see this spring.
Louisville commit, currently ranked No. 4 in the Illinois 2023 class. 6-foot-3, 205-pound frame, strong-bodied with a physical lower-half, durable build. Started on the mound in the State Semifinals and dominated; tossing a complete game one-hitter with 14 strikeouts - also while displaying pitchability and mound presence well above his years. Controlling his tempo throughout, Detmers moves with an athletic leg-kick, slightly coiling into balance point before moving with a tall/fall operation down the mound, remaining in-line with the plate and landing with a closed foot. His arm works with a clean/repeatable arm-circle, transitioning into a high ¾ slot. He showed above-average fastball command over the zone, primarily pitching to his glove-side but showing the ability to come inside on righties as well. His fastball plays with some finish/ride through the zone, holding 90-91 mph throughout most of his outing and topping out at 93 mph a couple times. He went to his breaking ball often throughout the outing, thrown both for strikes and to put hitters away while manipulating shape, playing with sharp 11/5 action and depth at 73-78 mph. He flashed a couple changeups throughout his outing as well, thrown with arm-speed and playing with late diving action, 82 mph. High-level 2023 that profiles as a starter at the next level.
Louisville commit. 6-foot-3, 205-pound, right-handed pitcher. Workhorse, wide-shouldered build; strong, thick lower half with athleticism throughout. Currently ranked No. 3 in the state and No. 40 overall. Got the start in the first game of the season. Extremely impressive first look at the talented right-hander in 2022. Pitched the morning game in less than ideal conditions; low temps with high winds and you would have never been able to tell by looking at him go about his business on the mound. Composed, confident and competitive demeanor. Displayed some more emotion and fire than we have seen in the past. Detmers was masterful overall, taking a no-hitter into the sixth inning before a two-out home run broke it up. Detmers proceeded to save his three hardest fastballs and best breaking ball for the next hitter striking him out on four pitches to complete his outing; Fastballs at 90, 90, 91 and then he ripped off a 78 mph breaking ball with 2425 rpm. His fastball sat comfortably at 87-88 mph, touching 89 throughout much of his outing, working both sides of the plate and down in the zone. He also showed the ability to elevate the fastball with two strikes for swings-and-misses. His curveball was his go-to secondary offering throughout, showing above-average feel off an 11/5 plane. Has the feel and athleticism to manipulate the spin and shape when needed; dropping it in for strikes early in counts and tightening it up with more depth and late action for two-strikes chases. Ended with 13 strikeouts in his six inning win. Gave up one hit, two runs and walked one. The arm works clean and with fluidity out of a high ¾ window while the delivery is highly-repeatable, athletic and works with ease. High-floor, high-ceiling 2023 draft prospect with starter profile.
Louisville commit. 6-foot-3, 205-pound, right-handed pitcher. Workhorse, wide-shouldered build; strong, thick lower half with athleticism throughout frame. Report from below (July 28th) was confirmed and elevated with this most recent outing. Extremely poised, comfortable, confident look on the mound. Controls the game. Handled adverse conditions (40 degree weather and rain) with zero issue. Commands the fastball, creates angle, occasional boring action, comes out of the hand easy; sat 85-88 mph in his first inning. Can add and subtract when needed. Still had upper-80s in his third and final inning. Curveball is above-average offering with potential to be a go-to out pitch, gained feel as the outing went on, 73-75 mph. Showed a heavy changeup in warmups, thrown with arm speed and intent, down in the zone. High floor/high ceiling 2023 prospect. Currently ranked No. 109 in the overall rankings.
6-foot-3, 205 pounds; advanced frame with immense potential in Illinois’ 2023 class. Detmers is the youngest brother to the most recent Los Angeles Angels first-round pick, LHP Reid Detmers (Glenwood, 2017; Louisville), the 10th overall selection in the 2020 draft. Parker looks to be well on his way to following a similar path, with a Louisville commit already on his resume. Detmers started the nightcap for the Decatur Commodores and lived up to the hype. Playing up a year, Detmers struck out nine over five innings, allowing just three hits and one earned run. The 6-foot-3, 205-pound righty sat an ultra easy 84-86 mph in the early going and flashed a sharp curveball at 71-72 mph with an occasional fading changeup. His repertoire showed everything it needs to fit a starter’s profile at the next level and one of the top arms in the Midwest and beyond.
Verbally committed to Louisville.
