2024 Future Games: LHP Michael Pettit (Lincoln-Way West) is an uncommitted southpaw to know, and he’s quickly proved to be one of the top left-handers in the state just in the past few months. Standing in a high-waisted 6-foot-1, 165-pound frame, Pettit has an extremely projectable frame with wiry limbs. He’s an easy mover with a simple operation, working into a medium/high balance point before working down the mound with a level front side, staying in-line. He hides the ball well in the back out of the glove before firing through with a loose ¾ release. He gets natural sinking action to his fastball, playing around 86-88 mph, topping out at 89 mph in this look - though we’ve seen him up to 91 mph in the past. He’ll also go to a slider at 72-73 mph that flashes tight, sharp 10/4 action, and he backs it up with a sinking changeup in the 76-77 mph range that he sells with arm-speed. Over his two innings of work, Pettit allowed only one run, one hit, two walks and struck out three.

Pettit (Lincoln-Way Wast, 2026) continued to establish himself as one of the top left-handed pitchers in the state Sunday, and he will be representing Illinois in the Future Games in late July. Pettit would struggle in the first inning against Leathernecks 16U but would proceed to pitch another 5.1 without letting up an earned run and striking out eight. Pitching exclusively out of the stretch, he comes from a low 3/4s arm slot that caused deception to hitters throughout the outing. Pettit would show quality pitchability as well, showcasing a three-pitch mix that included an upper-80s fastball that topped at 91 mph, a low-80s changeup, and a mid-70s breaking ball. He offers an athletic 6-foot-1, 165-pound frame and is just scratching the surface of his physical potential. He is a must-follow in the Class of 2026.

2026 southpaw Michael Pettit (Lincoln-Way West) is a young arm to keep an eye on. He's got a clean and repeatable long levered delivery and works out of a ¾ slot. He sat 78-81 from the left side with a sinking fastball that showed well above average feel for his age. He pairs it with a sweeping breaking ball and above average change as well.

CB: 67-69 mph. Preset wrist, sweeping action, 2/8 shape, underneath at times. T1990, 1902 average rpm.
CH: 70-77 mph. Above average feel, showed sinking action. T1819, 1780 average rpm.

Defense: Deliberate footwork to the ball, steady hands.
Run: 7.83 runner in the 60.
