Uncommitted. 6-foot-5, 165-pound, lean, high-waisted projectable build. The right-handed pitched toed the rubber in a conference rivalry game. Struck out six hitters in a short outing against Evanston. Intent to work down in the zone throughout his outing. Used a fastball and curveball mix, with the four seam fastball thrown with effort at 83-85 mph. The fastball comes out clean and works downhill from an over-the-top arm slot. A 12/6 curveball is the main go to secondary pitch, true 12/6 depth and action sitting 66-69 mph. An uncommitted name to follow and watch as he continues to grow into the body.
5/11/22
Uncommitted. An up and coming prospect in the class of 2024. A long, lanky 6-foot-4 sophomore, 165-pounds, projectable frame with room to add strength. Wood got his first Varsity start in the game against Glenbrook South, tossing four innings with three earned runs on seven hits, two walks and struck out six. In his final inning after allowing the leadoff hitter to reach third with no outs, Woods struck out the next three batters on the curveball to leave the runner stranded. Smooth tempo delivery, shoulders get on an uphill plane, drives off the back leg, long stride to home while landing squared. Wood used a three pitch mix; fastball, curveball and a changeup. A two seam fastball with late life sat 82-85 mph throughout his entire outing. The curveball was his strikeout pitch, thrown with confidence in any count but especially with two strikes, a true 12/6 breaker with tight spin sat 68-69 mph. A sinking changeup, thrown down in the zone sat 73-75 mph.
