RHP Ethan Dorchies (Cary Grove, 2024; Illinois-Chicago) is hard to miss in his long-limbed 6-foot-5, 205-pound frame. Ranked No. 23 in Illinois’ 2024 class, Dorchies’ ease of operation was impressive in this look. Simple, repeatable, and clean - his delivery had minimal effort, and his long and loose arm show signs of a potential velocity tick as he gets stronger. His fastball sat 87-89 mph, topping out at 90 mph with life, and he creates extension as he moves down the mound which makes the pitch look firmer. He threw a mid-70s curveball which produced multiple swing-and-misses in and out of the zone. One of the more interesting arms in the class, Dorchies continues to impress.

As named Fox Valley Conference Pitcher of the Year, Dorchies’ performance this season landed him a spot on our third-team. Allowing just seven earned runs over 55.2 IP, Dorchies’ 0.782 ERA and 0.894 WHIP reflect dominance on the mound. The UIUC commit struck out 71 batters this spring. His best stuff came in one of the most important games of Cary Grove’s season. As a junior in the regional championship game, he pitched a complete game shutout that was one of his nine wins on the season. He showed a prowess for going the distance, as that was one of his two complete game shutouts and one of his three complete games.

Illinois-Chicago commit, RHP Ethan Dorchies (Cary-Grove), was one of the biggest winners on the day, setting a new personal record, running his fastball up to 91.5 mph. Dorchies stands out immediately thanks to his long, loose-limbed, upside 6-foot-5, 195-pound frame and young look. The ceiling and present stuff make Dorchies one of the more interesting arms in the class. The fastball plays with life and jumps out of the hand with big extension down the mound that makes his firm fastball seem to play up that much more. He also showed off a late-breaking horizontal cutter in the low-80s with 2238 average rpm and a splitter in the upper-70’s with all kinds of tumble and action to it at times. Dorchies should continue to climb up the board in Illinois as he corrals and polishes his overall arsenal.
