10.12.14 - One of the top overall performers at October’s Unsigned Senior Showcase, Martinez opened eyes with his all-around skill set. Solidly built 6-foot, 185-pound frame; has the ability and tools to play multiple infield positions. Posted impressive numbers across the board: ran a 6.78 60, was clocked at 83 across the infield, registered 88 mph exit velocity. Offensively, shows natural switch-hitting abilities; repeats swing from both sides of the plate, each with similar approaches. Has aggressive plate approach, legitimate bat speed and rhythm from both sides. Defensively, may be best suited at third or second base, but possesses the arm strength, hands and overall athleticism to play shortstop if needed. Some effort in throw, with good carry across infield. Although Martinez didn’t get playing time on St. Rita’s loaded team as a junior last spring, he looks to be one of the top uncommitted infielders in Illinois’ 2015 class.

1/20/13 - Athletic 6-foot, 170-pound switch-hitting two-way player. Defensively shows arm strength (82 mph), hands work quickly, shows some effort defensively, good body control. Offensively hits from both sides; shows bat speed from both sides, right handed shows more pop, more explosiveness right handed, pull side approach left handed. On the mound delivery shows effort, high ¾ arm slot, quick arm action, up tempo delivery. Fastball sat 80-81 mph, showed run, minimal control. Curveball showed minimal action (70-72 mph). Changeup had cut action, lacks feel, 71-72 mph.

10/28/12 - Martinez is a 6-foot, 165-pound two-way player. Martinez carries himself well on a baseball field; he showed solid infield actions with soft hands and a clean exchange. Martinez’s arm played well across the diamond at 81 mph. Martinez showed quick-twitch actions with his footwork in the field, also running a 7.06 60. Offensively, Martinez showcased the ability to hit from both sides of the plate. Martinez showcased an aggressive path to the baseball showing flashes of pop from both sides. On the mound, Martinez displayed quick arm action producing an 82-83 mph fastball from a high ¾ arm slot. His changeup showed arm side run while thrown with fastball arm speed, also showing the ability to command the zone with it.
