Oklahoma State commit and one of the top arms in Illinois, regardless of class. Long, lanky, and lean-limbed 6-foot-6, 195-pound athlete, averaged 14.6 points and 5.4 rebounds per game for the Knights’ basketball team this winter. Quick up-tempo drop/drive type delivery, hunched at balance point, stays closed to front footstrike. Strides in-line to target, finishes through release and controls his levers well for age. Long loose and continuous arm path that comes out of a ¾ window. Fastball touched 91 mph in the first, sat 88-90 mph throughout, touching 90 mph again in the fourth inning. Starting to hold velocity more; at this time last year, peaked at 88 mph early while settling at 84-85 mph. Flashed late run at times, stayed off the barrel and induced ground balls at a high rate, including two inning-ending double plays. Wasn’t around the strike zone as often as we’ve seen in the past in this look, but did execute when necessary. Showed a true lane changing sinker at 86-88 mph with heavy horizontal movement, covering the entire plate at times. Sharp swing-and-miss sweep on a 75-78 mph slider, grabbed several uncomfortable whiffs out of the zone against right-handed hitters. Worked around a changeup at 83-85 mph that favored the glove-side corner in this look. Didn’t have his best stuff but still possesses one of the highest ceilings on the mound in the entire state, regardless of class.
Verbally committed to Oklahoma State.
PBR Future Games: RHP Drew Winslow (Triad, 2025) caught the attention of many when he took the rubber, standing at 6-foot-6, 195-pounds. Working consistently from a lower arm slot, Winslow touched 91 mph in his first frame, and pitched in the upper-80s across a two-inning stint. He generated natural arm-side run on the pitch and grabbed several uncomfortable swings from right-handed hitters as a result. Off his fastball, Winslow flashed developing sweep on a slider at 72-74 mph and he mixed in a firm 82-84 mph changeup, too. Also a star on the basketball court for Triad, Winslow is trending upward at the right time and looks the part of a high-follow arm in the Illinois’ 2025 class.
6-foot-5, 185-pound frame with long, lanky, thin levers that offer plenty of projectability. Started on the mound for the Knights against Nashville, hurling five shutout innings of two-hit ball, striking out six. Tall upright mover on the mound that’s still learning how to control his body downhill. Arm works from a loose, whippy ¾ slot, comes out of a tough angle and makes for a difficult look for opposing hitters. Ran his fastball up to 89 in the first inning, sitting at 84-88 mph throughout his outing with late arm-side life on occasion, though he did work around it at times. Generated plenty of uncomfortable swings throughout, jumped on hitters and induced plenty of ground balls. Confidence in his slider, turned to it with two strikes as well as when he was behind in the count. Played at 72-74 mph, flashing hard late sweeping action at times with future swing-and-miss potential. Calmed, collective presence on the mound - didn’t shy away when behind in the count once and didn’t issue a walk, either. Has also been a noteworthy contributor on Triad’s basketball team each of the last two seasons as an underclassman. Flashed glimpses of one of the higher ceiling arms in the state’s 2025 class.
