2024 Future Games: Chase Lockwood (Libertyville) gave one of the more polished looks from Team Illinois with a quality three-pitch mix for strikes. Listed at 6-foot-2, 175-pounds, Lockwood has an athletic frame that still holds plenty of room to add strength. His delivery is simple with a shorter balance point that moves in-line with a tall/fall lower-half, repeating with ease. His arm plays with a clean circle out of the glove, consistently working out of a high ¾ slot. His fastball played with natural sink in the low-80s (T84 mph), setting up both a curveball and a changeup that he could land for strikes, with the curveball playing over 2,500 rpm. Over his two innings of work, he didn’t allow a single run on two hits, no walks and two strikeouts.
7/17/24
An athletic, 6-foot-2, 175-pound frame, Lockwood was lights out in his Thursday night start. The righty threw five scoreless innings giving up one hit and three walks while striking out nine. He works quickly on the mound out of a fluid motion followed by a loose and quick arm. Lockwood is able to get downhill and create good extension with his arm, which creates deceptive velocity. His fastball was sitting 82-85 mph getting on hitters quickly. The curveball was sitting at 70-71 mph, the slider sitting at 78-80 mph, and the change-up at 77 mph. Lockwood had command of all four of his pitches and generated high spin rates with both the fastball and slider over 2300 rpm. As Lockwood continues to dominate this summer he will be an uncommitted name to watch in the 2026 class.
6/03/24
Lockwood has continued to trend upwards since we saw him at this same event last year. Currently ranked No. 32 in the state, Lockwood is a smooth and clean mover at a lean and trim 6-foot-2, 175-pounds. He pounded the zone (86% strikes) with his fastball throughout his ‘pen; sitting 80-82 mph (T83) with over 14” of run on average, with some occasional ride through the zone to pair (avg 15” IVB). He showed two different breaking balls in this look; with the 11/5-shaped curveball having the better feel for the zone at 68-69 mph, playing with depth through the zone, while his slider was harder at 72-74 mph with short, lateral action. Lockwood rounded out his arsenal with a heavy arm-side fading changeup (avg 21” HM) at 77-78 mph with occasional sink as well. The incoming junior will be a name to continue to follow this summer.
5/30/24
Lockwood, an uncommitted sophomore, tossed a complete game shutout vs. Wheeling in a 1-0 Regional Semi-Final win. Lockwood went all seven innings, scattered three hits, did not walk a batter and struck out 11. This was a continuation of an impressive spring for Lockwood. Going into this week Lockwood has the following stat line: 51.2 IP, 8-1-2, 10 R, 2 ER, 55 K, 19 BB, 0.27 ERA, 1.08 WHIP
5/15/24

Loose, easy swing, relaxed hands at setup, quality bat-to-ball, throws his hands and is able to stay on pitches up in the zone and away. Highly projectable two-way prospect that has also showed well on the mound in the past.

Mentioned in our Week 5 Scout Blog for his day at the plate, the uncommitted Sophomore got the start on the mound for the Wildcats. Lockwood gave his team a strong pitching performance, going 6 1/3 innings with seven strikeouts, two walks, two runs (one earned) and nine hits allowed. Lockwood had a 66% strike rate over his outing with two innings of multiple strikeouts. He showed a three-pitch mix, utilizing a fastball, slider and change-up. His fastball plays easy out of the hand and firm through the zone with occasional run, sitting 82-85 mph throughout. Backing the fastball was a slider with late action that generates soft contact and swing-and-miss, sitting 70-73 mph. Lockwood flashed the changeup at times, showing a similar profile as the fastball, coming in at 78-80 mph. At the plate, Lockwood went 1-for-4 at the plate with two RBIs.
4/11/24
