Uncommitted. Emerged a major winner from this year’s winter showcase circuit and recently debuted on the state’s updated 2023 rankings at No. 65 overall. Wiry, athletic 5-foot-10, 160-pound frame. Started for Waukegan against Warren Township on a cold windy sub-35 degree day. Works exclusively from the stretch, hands come set at shoulder height, high leg kick creates initial momentum downhill, simple tall/fall pattern to front footstrike, strong front side. Occasionally works closed off from target and does throw with some effort, quick tempo and competes. Long to home with runners on base. Short arm circle that finishes from a slightly elevated ¾ slot, above-average arm speed for age. Fastball touched 87 mph, sitting at 83-86 mph in the zone while flashing late arm-side action at times. Slider has the makings of a swing-and-miss pitch, comfortable throwing it in any count. Sat at 74-76 mph, did touch 78 mph twice towards the end of his outing, plays with heavy sweeping action from a lower arm slot on average than fastball. Mixed in a curveball at 72-74 mph, feel to land it for strikes with gradual action and some depth off an 11/5 plane. Comfortable and capable of pitching backwards with his arsenal. Generated plenty of weak contact against a quality Warren Township lineup; only one barrel and an abundance of ground balls. Profiles as a high-leverage reliever at the collegiate level.

To say that RHP Anthony Solis (Waukegan, 2023) made a strong impression in his first ever PBR Showcase would be an understatement. Standing at 5-foot-10, 160-pounds, the right-hander stole the show on the mound with one of the more electric ‘pens of 2022 so far. Solis works with a simple/repeatable delivery down the mound, featuring a slight drop/drive lower-half before moving into a whippy high ¾ arm slot, moving athletically throughout. His fastball jumps out of the hand and features eye-opening sinking action to his arm-side, hovering at 87-89 mph throughout his ‘pen and reaching back for 90 mph on his last bullet. The separator in Solis’ arsenal is his breaking ball; thrown at 77-78 mph with arm-speed, his slider averages 2,556 rpm while playing off a slurvy 10/4 plane, finishing through the zone with late action and depth (avg. 18.4 inches of break). He rounded out his arsenal with a developing changeup that comes in at 77-79 mph, flashing heavy sink to the arm-side at times and thrown with conviction. Solis was a big winner from Sunday’s event and is definitely a name to know for this coming spring.
