2/24/23

At his best Langenberg repeats his delivery for plus control of three offerings that include a 92-94 (T95) mph sinking fastball, an above average slider and his best pitch, a power sinking changeup at 86-88 mph. However, at Round Rock he displayed little of the above. Sam Houston State found barrel after barrel, knocking Langenberg out of the game after 89 pitches over 4.2 innings. He allowed three runs on nine hits, walking one and striking out six. The 6-foot-2, 190-pound right-hander pitched at 88-93 with a comfort zone of 90-91, showing good sink at times. His slider graded as below average with his changeup slightly above average. He also flashed a well below average cutter at 88-89. Whereas most of the industry has him in the later rounds of Day Two (or even Day Three based on the Round Rock look), I remain bullish on the Hawkeye right-hander. In the weeks leading up to the 2023 MLB Draft, three-pitch college starters with plus control and a track record of success tend to rise up draft boards, even the ones who weren’t at their best during Week Two of the season. Langenberg is still an early-to-mid Day Two (4th-5th round) prospect on my draft list.

8/01/22

Cape Cod: A low three-quarters righthander who profiles as a three-pitch starter, Langenberg repeats his delivery for plus control of all three offerings that include a 92-94 mph sinking fastball when he's at his best, though he sat 91-92 in another appearance (a rare poor appearance for him). Langenberg finished the summer with a sparkling 33-4 K-BB mark in 21.1 innings, along with a 3.37 ERA. His best pitch is a power changeup at 86-88 mph with plus late sink and spin rates in the 1600s. He can also attack righthanded hitters with an above average slider at 80-82 with spin in the 2500s to 2600s. A plus athlete, he can really move to field his position.

3/20/22

Langenberg, a rising sophomore, notched the first 10 of those KOs with a "nothing is straight" arsenal. An out of the shoulder release point also gives him good deception from a three-quarter release point. The competitive strike-thrower spotted up his 91-95 mph fastball and spun a tight 80-82 mph slider. He occasionally surprised with a cutter at 87-88 and 2600+ rpm and also showed the ability to kill spin and subtract velo with an above average 87-89 mph changeup. 2023 draft eligible prospect who has top three round potential, finished his five innings of work allowing three hits and one run.

Positional Profile: RHP
Body: 6-3, 190-pounds.
Delivery: Simple athletic delivery, repeats consistently, inline direction to plate with extension and finish.
Arm Action: RH. ¾ arm slot, body sequences well with arm, strength and quickness out front.
FB: T92, 91-92 mph. Consistent with quality strikes; late run and sink to arm side of plate.
CB: 77-78 mph. Landing breaking ball for strikes with late 11/5 shape.
CH: 83-85 mph. Above avg. CH to arm side of plate with late run and sink.

3/10/19

6-foot-2, 180-pound right-handed pitcher. #3 ranked player in Iowa 2020 class and is currently uncommitted. Lean athletic frame with wiry strength. Simple delivery, repeats well, long arm swing, easy effort out front with extension. Fastball was 88-89 mph, touching 90 mph, with late explosive arm-side run. Hard 11/5 curveball with late sharp break for strikes. Above avg. run and sink on changeup with late diving action to arm-side of plate.

7/30/18

Six-foot-2, 170-pound right-handed pitcher. Lean athletic frame. Rocker step into higher controlled balance point, long arm swing, clean arm action and drives baseball downhill. Fastball was 85-88 mph with mostly straight action to plate. Threw above avg. slider with tight spin and late 2/8 break. Solid running action on changeup. Overall solid command with 3 pitches, is athletic with clean arm action, and projects to continue to add velocity.

7/31/17

Six-foot-1, 161-pound right-handed hitting pitcher. Lean athletic build with room for continued physical development. Shows tempo to delivery, clean arm action out front, with flashes of life to fastball. Works downhill to plate at 84-87 mph; touching 88 mph. Shows better command in wind-up; tends to rush to plate out of stretch. Breaking ball is still developing but flashes 11/5 quality shape and is thrown with good arm speed. High follow in 2020 class and should be watched closely over course of year.

2018 PBR Future Games- Langenberg came consistently downhill at hitter with a FB 85-87 from the right side but kept hitters off balance with a 73-75mph 12-6 BB with hard, late two-plane movement that produced swings and miss results. A CH at 80 mph showed slight arm side movement late.
