A fastball with hop has a flat approach angle and visually jumps through the zone. When thrown up in the zone, it is more likely to generate a higher swing and miss average. Hop+ of 100 is MLB average.
Fastball
Sink+
A fastball with sink has low backspin and drops through the strike zone. When thrown down in the zone, it is more likely to generate a higher ground ball percentage and lower launch angle. Sink+ of 100 is MLB average.

Army Commit. 5-foot-9, 170 pounds. In just one game, this became one of my favorite baseball players in the state of Georgia. But before we talk about his skills, we have to acknowledge what a competitor he is. This is a player with an intense focus and an endless motor who gives 110% effort at all times, and who has no fear of anything or anyone on the diamond. That’s probably why his Wolfpack teammates call him “Sarge.” Well that, and his commitment to one of the most important, prestigious schools in the country. A commitment to Army at West Point is more than just a place to go to school, its a commitment to protect our great country. That should tell you all you need to know about Mark’s character and mental+physical toughness. This isn’t just your average baseball player, this is a guy who will make an immediate impact on D1 baseball and brings the type of versatility teams covet. He’s an instinctive defender who can play anywhere on the dirt, and can play SS at the next level. He reads hops extremely well and is aggressive to the ball with good body balance. But what really stands out is the quick exchange and cannon arm that play A/AVG anywhere on the field. As a bat? Oh man, it’s fun to watch. To see a stocky “undersized” player with this type of raw power is truly eye opening, and unique players are just more fun. Not only does he have perfect swing mechanics, but he takes absolute donkey hacks! This dude is going up to the plate with mean intentions, and refuses to get cheated. In fact, there are few hitters in the southeast that attack the baseball out front like Abell. His smooth leg kick leads to an aggressive stride and ground gained, allowing him to beat every pitch to it’s spot and supply the force. With all the intent in his swing, he displays shockingly good body control which will only get better as he gets stronger. He pitches too? Yes, and it’s disgusting. The FB worked in the 88-89 range T90 with insane riding life that blew away multiple solid bats in relief. The sweeping CB in the low 70’s will continue to sharpen. Mark Abell is the truth!

Future Game Trials
5-foot-6, 145-pound left-handed hitting two-way prospect, lean, proportional build, ran a 7.67 laser-timed 60. Offensively, balanced setup, smooth hand load, short heel lift stride, good balance through finish. Line drive type hitter, peppered the gaps during BP, barrel works short to the zone, somewhat uphill through the zone, smooth swing with some whip in the barrel, posted a 78 exit velocity off a tee, 85.90 max exit velocity during BP. Defensively, arm works with some length on the back-side to a low ¾ slot, 77 across the infield. Plays through the ball, quick transfers, clean footwork, good feel for glove hand, maintains body control on the run. On the mound, clean arm action to a low ¾ slot, repeatable. Tall and fall delivery, works on-line, lands toe closed, finishes upright. Fastball sat 77-78, some run. Curveball, 63-64, 11/5 shape, gradual. Changeup, 68-71, sink.
