The Georgia Scout Blog provides insider information and scouting notes from the PBR Georgia Scouting Staff during the season. This running blog will feature information on underclass prospects, unsigned seniors, draft prospects, and anything else that is notable. We go the extra mile to provide a wide range of information, including player evaluations, velocities, pop times, home to first times, and more. Simply put, the Georgia Scout Blog is loaded with everything you need to keep tabs on the entire baseball industry in the Peach State …
Mark Abell, IF/RHP, 2023
Army Commit. 5-foot-9, 170 pounds. In just one game, this became one of my favorite baseball players in the state of Georgia. But before we talk about his skills, we have to acknowledge what a competitor he is. This is a player with an intense focus and an endless motor who gives 110% effort at all times, and who has no fear of anything or anyone on the diamond. That’s probably why his Wolfpack teammates call him “Sarge.” Well that, and his commitment to one of the most important, prestigious schools in the country. A commitment to Army at West Point is more than just a place to go to school, its a commitment to protect our great country. That should tell you all you need to know about Mark’s character and mental+physical toughness. This isn’t just your average baseball player, this is a guy who will make an immediate impact on D1 baseball and brings the type of versatility teams covet. He’s an instinctive defender who can play anywhere on the dirt, and can play SS at the next level. He reads hops extremely well and is aggressive to the ball with good body balance. But what really stands out is the quick exchange and cannon arm that play A/AVG anywhere on the field. As a bat? Oh man, it’s fun to watch. To see a stocky “undersized” player with this type of raw power is truly eye opening, and unique players are just more fun.
