2022 MLB Draft: The power right-hander had Tommy John surgery in early March after making just three starts this season. In 15.2 innings pitched he struck out 27 while walking only two. Sims' makeup and competitiveness are off the charts, and so is his FB/SL combo. From a three-quarter release point he's a strikeout machine with a mid-90s, higher-spin (2400s) heater and a devastating same plane slider that is extremely difficult to differentiate from his heat. At 2500-2600 rpm it dives to his glove side underneath the bat. When healthy, Sims' stuff and command are such that he is likely to be a quick mover through a minor league system and into the back of a ML bullpen.
By now we’ve all heard and likely seen during the CWS the superlatives Sims brings every time he takes the bump. His makeup and competitiveness are off the charts, and so is his FB/SL combo. From a three-quarter release point he’s a strikeout machine with a mid-90s, higher-spin (2400s) heater and a devastating same plane slider that is extremely difficult to differentiate from his heat, until it’s too late. At 2500-2600 rpm it dives to his glove side underneath the bat. Sims will most likely be the first college reliever picked in the 2022 draft and possesses the makeup, stuff and command to move very quickly through a minor league system and into a ML bullpen.
Threw unhittable smoke pellets at 93-96 (#HeatSheet) with riding life during his four inning, 10 strikeout performance against Texas on Saturday. The aggressive, strong bodied right-hander overpowered the Longhorn lineup, facing just 12 batters during his perfect relief appearance.
The two-way standout, who is committed Mississippi State, was getting some well deserved rest at DH in this game, after striking out nine in 6.2 innings on Tuesday night. He has a strong athletic build with plenty of batspeed and strength. It still looks like he is getting his feet underneath him at the plate in the early spring season, but will be one to watch as the weather warms.
