North and South Forsyth High Schools Battle the Cold and Each Other

Cross county rivals from North Forsyth and South Forsyth got together on a frigid and windy Wednesday at North Forsyth High School. It was a hard fought game in which the hitters understandably had a hard time battling the conditions versus the two right-handed pitchers on the mound. Cooper Davidson lead the way for South Forsyth, holding North’s hitters in-check until the late innings. While Brody Westbrooks (2019 Georgia Tech Commit) had the opposite fortune allowing costly runs early, before settling in. Westbrooks finished after six innings pitched giving up three runs, on eight hits, punching out seven.

The future Yellow Jacket has a mature look at 6-foot-2 and 200 pounds. He pitched from a high ¾ slot with a clean arm stroke and solid actions on the mound. His fastball (83-85) offered good downhill angle. Curveball was a loose 70-73 but he did a quality job landing it for strikes, and was effective using his change-up against left-handed hitters. Westbrooks is a strike thrower with a solid mix.

On the young players to watch front, North Forsyth shortstop Miles Hartsfield is a young 2020 who has solid actions at the position. He has a straight away contact approach but lacks present strength at the plate. As he matures Miles could be a player to keep an eye on.

The two-way standout, who is committed Mississippi State, was getting some well deserved rest at DH in this game, after striking out nine in 6.2 innings on Tuesday night. He has a strong athletic build with plenty of batspeed and strength. It still looks like he is getting his feet underneath him at the plate in the early spring season, but will be one to watch as the weather warms.

The winning pitcher Cooper Davidson is a big kid who likes to compete and that is what he did, After giving up a big sixth-inning dinger to North Forsyth’s Kyle Martin, Davidson then buckled down and slammed the door, going the distance allowing only the two runs on five hits.
