Strong bodied athletic frame. Natural power with physical hands and above average bat speed. Baseball jumps off the barrel, in game hit a solo HR to opposite field.
7/20/18 - Physical 6-foot-2, 210-pound left-handed hitting corner outfielder with raw man-strength. The Mississippi State recruit had two hits and a walk in the game. First, he took a 71-mph curveball the other way for a line-drive single to left field. Later, Tarver executed a hit-and-run by lining a single through the left side on another curveball.
5/15/18 - Billy Beane taught us that we aren't selling jeans, but Ringgold 2019 outfielder Andre Tarver sure does fill out the uniform well. Listed at 6-foot-2, 197-pounds on the Tigers football roster, he has significant strength throughout a developed build that appears to have pushed above two bills by now. The left-handed hitting Mississippi State recruit showed a solid approach against a mid-80s southpaw, fighting off a fastball on the inner third of the plate to muscle a single to center, staying through a slider on a fly out, and smoking a line drive on which he wasn't out of the batter's box before the pitcher stabbed it in his glove. Moved well in the outfield, making two nice catches in right-center field in the bottom of the first inning, including a sliding catch on one knee off a fading pop up. Did not get any home-to-1B times on this day.
2/8/20:Strong left handed hitter with advanced contact ability. At 6-foot-2 210 pounds, he can get too big and rotational at times but he competes at the plate every at-bat with a tall, balanced stance which leads to full extension in the swing. The ability to drive balls with authority is a natural skill set that sets Tarver apart and could turn into above average power as he matures. His arm is more than adequate to play right field and shows average range with natural tracking skills to help him run down fly balls.
11/1/19:Tarver is a good bodied outfielder and an imposing figure in the batters box. His left-on-left approach really came a long way last season, but questions as to whether he could play centerfield caused his draft stock to fall, landing him at Chipola. Heshows a quiet and simple approach while flashing good pull side power, and facing pitchers willing to challenge the left-left Tarver, may be just what the doctor ordered this spring. If Tarver shows a similar bat as he did in 2019 look for his draft stock to climb.
