Starts in a balanced crouched stance with a compact small load, then uses a quick stride. Has quick bat speed, short flat swing plane and good extension on his finish. Found lots of barrels with loud contact. Aggressive approach. Advanced in the infield, had a live arm with throws that topped out at 86 mph; has a packing natural exchange, soft consistent hands, and smooth rhythmic feet. Fields the ball out front, movements laterally were athletic. From a slot, showed consistent accuracy to the base with a loose arm action. 6/15/19
Long, wiry shortstop who has continued to fill out. Moves with athleticism at short and works with confidence and hands are above average. High offensively ceiling as well.
8/5/18 - Lean athletic projectable framed Player. In his inning of work he showed a clean, effortless delivery from a natural 3/4 slot. The fastball sat at 79-80 touching 81 and although it’s fairly straight he worked down consistently with good extension at release. Flashed a few sliders at 72-73, the pitch lacked depth, but did have some short late horizontal bite. Smith has some intriguing tools and With continued reps I expect his best day are still ahead of him.
8/4/18 - Shows athletic actions in the middle with an above average arm across the diamond at 82 mph (which tied for the team lead). At the plate, he shows a level path through the zone with quick hands and present bat speed. Drove a ball to the outfield for an RBI double in the second game.
