During the BP session everybody stopped to watch West, who just had a different sound when the ball came off his bat. He easily drove balls over the wall to the pull side. His 6-foot-5 245 pound frame is plenty strong enough at the plate but it’s the speed and quickness in the hands that stood out. West had multiple good at bats in this weekend going down and getting pitches low or on the outside corner. The plate coverage and ability to barrel the ball up could make for a very special hitter in the future.
11/17/19
Strong and athletic frame at 6-foot-5, 245 pounds. Average hands with quality footwork around 1st base, average footwork at 3rd with average arm strength and accuracy on throws across the infield. Balanced setup at the plate with short stride and above average bat speed with 90 mph exit velo. Has a level bat path and hits gap to gap with power to all fields. Had a double in the game and the bat speed plays, would be good to see against more velocity, but very strong with big power potential.
8/25/18
Uncommitted. Big, strong frame standing at 6-foot-4, 240 pounds with raw strength. Stood out offensively as he showed present gap-to-gap power when he was on time during batting practice. Above average bat speed with strength throughout his swing created hard, solid contact on the ball. This translated to the cage where he registered a 97 mph exit velocity in the cage which was one of the highest ones of the day. During gameplay, he had a hard flyout to right field, but the ball jumps off the bat and shows present power. Defensively, he shows solid actions around the bag with his throws across the diamond topping out at 80 mph.
