RHP, started for the Athletics. He didn’t have great results, allowing four runs on five hits and two walks while striking out three in 2.2 innings, but he showed big stuff. His fastball was 91-94 and he mixed in a two-seamer in the high 80s. His slider was 83-84 with sharp, swing-and-miss break, and he showed feel for a changeup with run and sink at 77-80.
7/18/18 @ NCTB Upperclass Tourney - ASU commit. Tall, lean, slender, powerful athlete. One of premium pitching prospects in the region in 2019 class. Long legs and arms with a wide back, body is built to throw a baseball. Slow control into his rocker step, arm slot just above 3/4, arm is long out of glove separation, ramps up to violent at release with a long follow through. Delivery to home was 1.7 sec with a runner on first. Fastball dominant, only threw a single off speed pitch, 85 mph slider. FB consistent 88-89, reached 91 four pitches in a row in the 2nd inning. Highlight for Tomzak is that he is aggressive inside, unafraid and very confident to throw the fastball inside to RHH’s /// Saw him sit 88-89, touched 91 a few times, lots run on fastball, tight slider 82 mph, 3/4 slot, long levers, some pitchability, lively and ceiling is high.
7/13/18 @ USA PDP - Arizona State commit, one of top pro pitching prospects in Northern California and at the top of the list for some scouts. Long lanky body, loose and fluid actions, fast loose whippy arm, fairly compact arm action, high-3/4 slot, tucks knee close to body on lift, whacks head during delivery at times when hat falls off, slight front hip open early during move forward causes some slightly open stride, could be quite a bit more velocity with better lower body mechanics and perhaps just a bit lower slot, fastball has lots of life and often lots of comeback to armside life while also keeping the ball down well, occasionally its run and at times sink, say 88-90, low of 87 and top of 91. Didn't use breaking ball much if at all in four batter outing (BB, 6-3, 4-3, 4-3), got all outs with fastball, broke one bat, got behind a lot but found a way to get the outs, control was spotty and long way from command. Secondary pitch was 78-82 mph change-up.
