at College Park HS - Nevada signee; Easy to see why Jackson is going to play at the next level. He is very athletic and very smooth in the field. He showcased a strong arm and a quick transfer in warm-ups and it translated to the game. He made a nice play on a hard hit grounder and quickly flipped it to second for a fielder’s choice. Used his instincts and quick feet to cover second on a steal attempt that caught him a bit off guard but he got to the bag to cover and tag the runner out. Didn’t have a big day at the play, going 0-for-2 with a walk and swinging strikeout but he showed his pitch recognition skills when he laid off a tough slider during an at-bat. Stands close to the plate with hands high but has a very quiet and controlled stance, although there is some backward movement of his feet when he swings. Was losing the barrel through the zone, indicating some intent to lift the ball. Jackson also closed this one out on the mound, getting the final two outs (H, K).
vs Freedom HS in NCS D1 playoff - Uncommitted; one of top uncommitted players in N California, strong compact athletic build, displayed above average arm that plays on left side, ball tracked across diamond and stayed on-line, good bat control showed up on well-executed hit and run, ran 4.31 down line on a chopper to shortstop, good balance at plate, hand speed is good, looks to have doubles type extra base pop and speed to put pressure on the defense. Also pitches and closed in this one, fastball up to 87 with some length through the zone in what was his first outing in over a month, stuck with the fastball exclusively.
5/22/18
NCS 1st round playoff game, strong lower body, compact middle infielder body type, good combo player with good shortstop skills and bat talent that will translate beyond high school. Stays back well, recognizes offspeed well, can punish a mistake up in zone for extra base power, stays inside ball yet maintains an aggressive move through contact, also showed good sac/drag skills, up the middle he played defense with calm and played through distractions, near average arm (relative to the college game). Good all-around player.
