2/20/19 - He’s much leaner and appears stronger and more durable. The new physique has added strength to the frame, particularly in the upper half which is translating more bat speed and power at the plate. His arm strength continues to be average to slightly above as popped 2.01 - 2.11 between innings. It’s at the plate where there’s noticeable difference as his improved bat speed has led to him getting to balls in much better. He turned on a few fastball that were in on his hands and was able to pull them foul. The bat may be the carrying tool here and it appears the improvements with the bat are taking hold.
1/19/19 - Carpentier, an Arizona State recruit, was excellent behind the plate as he helped guide the Yucaipa staff. The 6-foot, 190-pounder has some durable-strength throughout his frame, and features softer hands and quiet receiving skills behind the plate as well as a quick transfer and strong throwing arm. He was consistently on the bag between innings at a 2.0, and gunned-down a runner in-game by more than 10 feet. The left-handed hitter starts with his hands held high, loading them down and back with a reverse toe-tap that strides forward with a slight leg kick. His hands push out slightly in driving the barrel fast through the zone on a slightly uphill plane, and he should provide solid gap to gap power with the potential for some pull side power in the future.
12/9/18 - Carpentier is a name everyone in baseball circles has know for some time now. However, the Arizona State commit looks like a different player thanks in part to losing close to 15 pounds since the end of summer and adding strength to his frame. The loss of the pounds shows up in his game as he appears quicker and lighter behind the plate where his arm continues to be one of the best at the position. Where his new physique is evident is at the plate where he appears to have a tick more bat speed and a more juice in the bat. He stroked a triple - something I don't think would've happened in the summer - during the game to left-center field showing off some added quickness to his game.
9/20/18 - Carpentier looks to be in better physical shape heading into the fall after the summer circuit. The catch-and-throw continues to be the calling card, but Carpentier appears to be having more consistent at-bats with better results too. Something to watch heading into winter.
