Orange County Preseason All-State - stocky build with some athleticism in a 5-foot-9 155 pound frame. Catcher and third basemen that jumped on the mound with a short arm path and release towards home plate. Fastball was straight at 74-77 mph and showed command to both sides of the plate. Flipped a slider over at 67-68 mph that he was able to command in the zone. Showed a splitter at 69-71 mph with downward spiking action. Overall showed that he can compete on the mound and throw strikes, making him an option on the mound for his high school team.
9/21/19
Uncommitted. Five-foot-9, 155-pounds. Medium frame with room for continued physical development and present wiry strength. Has an open, high handed stance getting the barrel in-and-through the zone with a slight uppercut path with excellent use of the lower half. Showed a middle-middle approach and the ability to get the barrel on the ball. Behind the plate he shows soft hands with a quick release with throws in the range of the bag. On the mound he showed solid feel for a three pitch mix dropping his fastball, curveball, changeup mix in for strikes. We’ve had several viewings of Sotelo on the mound and this was arguably as sharp as he’s looked in any of them.
8/17/19
PBR CA STATE GAMES - Projectable, young build with strength still coming. Showed strong baseball instincts with ability to create lift at the plate and defensive skills that can continue to keep making jumps. Open with high hands stance looks to lift ball staying focused to opposite field; Sac Fly in first AB was squared up well and understood situation. Behind the plate showed quick high release (2.18-2.25) with ability to keep ball in bag vicinity. On the hill showed strong stuff through 2 clean innings with 2 Ks. Hands stay at the waist through small rock over the back hip allowing compact, shallow swing to H-3/4 release. FB 74-77 able to move up/down and set up breaking ball. CB 63-67 11/6 shape with length; blended pitch with 11/4 shape having more slurve and tighter spin.
