6/12/18 - 5-foot-11, 135-pound, lean, wiry strong build that has plenty of room for added mass/strength with continued physical maturation. Johnston has quick, fluid footwork to the ball. Funnells out front with soft hand and seamlessly moves into throwing position. Shows quick and clean exchanges. Has adequate arm strength resulting in online throws across the diamond. Plays much bigger than his weight would indicate. Johnston shows a balanced setup at the plate where he uses a left leg kick trigger to initiate his swing. He shows fast hands and a level bat path that results in line drives. Maintains bat plane through the hitting zone consistently with lower half control. Uses legs as one. There's a subtle fluidity to his swing that is balanced throughout. It's easy to picture Johnston with another 60 pounds on his frame by the time he's a junior in college.
