V Monterey - Brown Commit. Medium frame that is long and lean with athletic proportioned build. Defensive skills behind the plate are carrying tools with excellent fundamentals. Footwork stands out with ability to be quick and controlled leading to strong throws to 2nd base (1.97-2.17 Pop, 2.25 Knee). Consistently on the bag with playable average arm strength from compact release. Really impressed with his ability to block and move laterally keeping everything in front of him. Athletic out of the crouch with the ability to bounce from block to feet. Leadership skills stand out from behind the plate being able to work with pitchers and call out situations for his defenders. Offensively stands tall with slightly opened stance and high hands keeping a high back elbow. Big front leg lift with balance and posture in back hip as hands show small movement down and back in load. Compact, flat barrel with controlled swing sticking to the middle of the field; takes what is given to him looking to hit hard line drives. Two hits in the game with both singles going to CF. Competitive and impactful all-around skills that can translate to the next level.

At Palma - Brown commit. Only an abbreviated look as he came in late as a pinch hitter and played 3B. Large frame that has length and lean muscle, Burley is normally the starting catcher at San Benito and caught my eye during pre-game when he was letting balls fly from behind the plate (1.94 Pop). The arm is very strong and quick, consistently putting the ball on the bag with clean footwork that makes the arm play up. At the plate stung the ball twice with the first one going past a diving 2nd baseman to score two runs. Balanced, wide stance at the plate with high hands and flared elbows bouncing the bat off his back pre-pitch. Rocks back into a leg lift as the hands work down and back into the shoulder with athleticism and rhythm. Bat gets on plane early and stays in the zone a long time with late whip through working on a slightly upwards path. Athletic out of the box using his long gait to get down the line well with the ability to read pitches and advance when on base; forced an errant throw when at 3B to score a run after stealing 2nd and taking 3rd on a ball in the dirt. Plan to see again later in the season for more insight on his catching skills.
7/17/18-7/19-18 @ NCTB Upperclass Tourney - Multiple reports from two different scouts at tourney: Long and lean bodied catcher with athleticism for that position but others as well,
showed above average athletic ability with plus side to side movement blocking the ball, receiving was strong as were transfer and throwing skills, good release and accurate on bag throw to nab a runner, defensively was a standout but bat has something to offer as well. /// Athletic bodied catcher, lean and projectable, offensively showed good opposite field approach while keeping hands inside the ball, understands the game as he let a runner steal and took a pitch intentionally, loose swing, pretty flat and stayed in middle of field, hard L8, projectable hitting tools, defensively shifted and blocked well.
