v Soledad - Fresno City College commit - Large, lean and very athletic frame. Can go get it in CF showing agility in hips and ability to use quick feet to come get ball in front of him. Arm is solid average for CF with high release and ability to put the ball on bags. On base twice with walk and reaching on error that scored a run for the team. Long, athletic stride down the line with limited effort showing good game speed (4.2-4.3 H-1st) that puts pressure on defenses. Arm also shows up on mound where he has struck out 46 in 23 innings. Two-way type of guy for next level.
10/27-10/29/18 - NCTB Fall Classic - Large frame that is very athletic showing high waist, length in legs and lean twitchy muscular build, looks the part of a wide receiver. Simple, somewhat jerky delivery with hands staying mid-chest; slight lift on high front knee with slight back turn. Hand drops from glove before very short, quick arm gets to overtop release point cleanly behind body; uses front arm to tuck and create speed in rotation. Fastball 80-85 (velocity range from two outings) with angle from high release point; able to attack both sides of plate. More velocity looks to be available as body matures and learns to be a bit less mechanical while on the mound. Curveball 70-71 with 1/6 shape showing big depth that creates two-level break from a looser shape; feel for the pitch during outing especially to arm-side. Changeup 75-76 hard dive from angle with limited feel. Ran a 6.73 60 and was up to 87 from OF while also showing impressive power to the pull-side in BP; all great signs for added velocity and showed off his super athletic build. Certainly maintains a chance to develop as a pitcher or position player down the road.
10/7/18 - Central Coast Open - Uncommitted, long lean and strong 6-foot-3, 190-pounds, built like an athlete, previously a standout football player, overhand slot, has good arm speed, some depth on backside before bringing hand up near head, abbreviated stride looks like it could elongate a bit. Has a strong lower half though could sync up timing of lower and upper half better. Fairly quick paced delivery, somewhat rushed. Works with good direction down the slope, fastball life was fair (83-85 mph). Secondary pitches came out with early release due to timing of delivery on this day, both curveball (70-71 mph) and change-up (78-79 mph) were consistently up. Body, arm strength/speed and athleticism are all present and he should be seen next spring.
