2021 MLB Draft: Holman was off to a decent start last spring before the season came to an abrupt halt, but he showed signs of a special arm, getting up to 95-96 mph with his fastball at times. Then, after a successful summer in the San Diego League, where the 6-foot-6 hurler worked eight innings and tallied 15 strikeouts along with just one walk, he missed the first five weeks of the 2021 season due to a preseason injury before making his season debut at Utah on March 26. From a stuff standpoint, Holman continues to improve his secondary stuff, with his slider showing swing-and-miss promise over the summer. The fastball continues to be a go-to offering with a fastball ranging 90-93 and up to 94 mph.
XL frame that is both strong and physical, Holman flashed some raw power and strength to the pullside during BP, but his future looks much more promising on the hill as he started the second game and showed a power arsenal. During BP, the bat lifts to the pull side with leverage though tends to hit off the front foot and leads to swing and miss which was evident during the game. On the mound, showed controlled intent down the hill from a tall, high front knee delivery driving the backside down the hill and flashed the ability to be sturdy and brace the front side. Arm has quick depth out of the glove to high slot with arm strength being evident. FB 91-93 live at the plate and flashing angle using on both sides of the plate. CHG 81-85 short bottom; times where he chokes the pitch working better when he allows its action to occur more freely. CB 78-81 12/6 with tight rolling depth; flashed the ability to get the fingers over the pitch and when he does the spin is sharper and allows for more bite.
